I have 3PCs...I have MR Home on my main PC....and MR Free on the other 2....I have looked but cannot find out regarding the number of PCs for one MR Home license....anyone know? Thanks
Thanks.... Using a Win11 PC...I made a backup image using Macrium8 Free....If using Macrium8 Home paid...is it possible to do a restore from a Macrium8 Free image?
Hi, I am considering to get Macrium 8 and was trying to find an answer online: I have two separate drives. Both run the Windows operating system and both are swapped out for the other, specifically when Windows 11 is getting updated. Can one license cover both drives if they are installed into the same desktop? Can't find any answers to this one but I'll keep looking in the meantime. I mean: if not, I'll just keep it on the Insiders beta drive where it's most needed. Again, this is NOT a boot drive + storage but two discrete drives running separate OS. Thanks for any answers.
Technically I think that's a no. I would buy the 4 pack when the next sale comes. I don't think they do a 2 pack.
Yeah, I was kind of dreading it wouldn't fly. One of my sec. programs, actually two, allow a second "seat" but that's like a personal favor, not a given. Okay, so I'll wait for any sales and go by that. Thanks alot, xxJackxx, this is again very helpful.
As was suggested in the other thread, run separate copies of the free version on both and upgrade when the sale hits. Then you're good now and have a plan for later.
Why? Their EULA seems to bind a license to a single computer; not a single drive: https://www.macrium.com/eula
Yeah I saw that but didn't think it was appropriate to post any further about Macrium in the Bork thread. OK. If need be I'll ask Macrium directly when I make a purchase. If someone there says "no, it's one drive one license" well it's to be expected. But would be nice if for both, right?
@XIII is correct. The worst you may have to do (and that's a maybe, never tested it) is do a License Remove on the drive being swapped out and license the drive being swapped in. But I believe it'll actually work without issue.
You can swap back and forth if you want. If you try to activate an activated license it will fail. It might be a pain if you forgot to deactivate before swapping.
I just found this: https://knowledgebase.macrium.com/display/KNOW80/End User License Agreement I'm not sure that this exactly matches this situation but at this point if there is any doubt either way I would ask their support, I'm sure they'll be happy to answer the issue conclusively.
Hmmm. No this is not similar to a VM type of thing as these are both bare-metal installations that can run independently. And that's not specified in the EULA that I could see. Maybe I missed it. Worse case--I talk to Macrium support and like you said: they'll have the final say-so. I will def. post their reply back here so that anyone else can know for sure if this situation is going to work for them or not. Unless of course someone already has the reply from Macrium on this specific issue and can post it here, which would be even more appreciated.
plat, Quite correctly you don't want either OS to see the other OS. So, no cross talk. This can be also be accomplished by having both drives in the computer or both OS on the same drive. OS can be hidden from each other. No cross talk.
Well....what is meant by "cross-talk"? That there would be syncing or something like that? The two OS I have now on two sep. drives are not in any contact with one another. There is no communication between them. I briefly considered having both OSs on the same drive but then the Insiders drive suddenly failed with a bad partition a while back and that scared me off putting both on one drive. I've already planned to put the subscription on the beta drive. Right now it's messed up in the Updates section so it seems very justified to be there anyway. I have had minimal to no problems with the 10 drive that I can recollect in recent times but if Macrium OKs that two seats can happen, I'll def. consider putting it on that one too.
