How much is enough? For whom? What will happen then? A charming idea, but a terrible lack of detail.

USA still the best. But barely.
This company is mercenary & destroyed a great product. I bet the $$$ is $5 million or more to release this as oss.

Obviously, the promoter has hit hard times with marketing/sales of the product, and this is a last grab for cash.

Funding is needed to release code as open source?
Sounds like you hit the nail on the head.

I read the info again and nowhere is there an explanation as to why they have to raise money in order to release the software as open source. What exactly does it mean and does it cost anything to do?

It sounds to me like an attempt to be rid of the project after a quick payout. I am also confused about needing money to release source code to the public.

I'll never buy anything from them again after they decided to open source my credit card info that last time I purchased from them. :thumbd:

A useless program, a useful way to make some dough?

Although a bit buggy, the registry cleaning component was 1 of the better tools in its category in the market last time I tried it; although roger_m would probably disagree with me. Not sure about the ethics of the company though.

Technically, releasing a program source code doesn't require funds. I guess they are asking for funds to offset the costs of making it "free as in free lunch" in the future. Rather than to sell their code to any 1 of the competition, they choose to try and "sell" it to the public if there is any interest. Whether anyone think that's a good deal, I don't know.
