    Hi.

I currently have SuperAntiSpyware Professional (real time) and I'm thinking of adding Malwarebytes' to run on demand but I'm not sure.

Can anyone say if one is any more effective than the other?

    Thanks again.

Both are pretty proficient at what they do. As for is one better than the other, it is the same as any antimalware product in being that nothing detects 100% of malware 100% of the time. Having both....why not...never anything wrong with getting a second opinion.

I'd run both for both are better at detecting different types of malware.

Ditto, both are mandatory programs for my friends and family. In my experience they both have caught items the other didn't. As far as which is better, not going to touch that with a 10ft pole;).

I have both paid versions, and normally run MBAM in real time, and SAS on-demand.

    Thanks to all you all.

I think I'll download MAB and first run it on demand. I'll see as to which one I'll make real time.

    Thanks again.

If all you need is on-demand, I'd personally go with Hitman Pro. Fast, multi-engined and better on-demand detection and removal of advanced stuff both MBAM and SAS misses, like the latest TDL3.3 rootkit. Obviously, keep something for on-demand.

I use MAM and not SAS.

And for AV, I use a-squared.

I only use those 2 apps, nothing else.

Is this the one you use, this freeware version?

yup...the free version allows you to remove detected threats for 30 days after first activation....the scanning is free but mind you it does not offer real time protection as yet ...you can d/l from here too...http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro

I hope that's a typo or I'm missing something :) - I'm seeing hourly updates of TDL3.23 from several domains atm.

You do now, but about two weeks ago when it first came out, Hitman was the only product that was able to detect AND remove the latest version. Same was the issue with older of the TDL3 rootkit and few others.

P.S. I just re-read your post, and you are correct, it's a typo. I wanted to type TDL3.x, not sure how 3.3 got there. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until v3.3 shows up though. :)

For information some public tools could remove sometimes and a private tool could always remove all 3.x

I think by public tool you mean Combofix? If yes, then it's far from automated, user-friendly removal tool. At the time of writing, Hitman was the only fully-automated tool that required no user involvement, save for few clicks and reboot. I have not seen or tried any private tools, so I can't comment there.

I have run both full time with Kaspersky, F-Secure, and Avira with zero conflicts.

TDSS killer, eSage, Norman TDSS cleaner, TDL3+ Cleaner by STRELiTZIA. Gmer can detect modification, RkU can detect...cannot comment on private tools apart from obviously they have potency through obscurity and TDL authors cannot react to a private tool as they have done with public...but this is all OT.

how does HMP fair against new armour in TDL3.24?
