M$ Windows Update

Hi Guys,

I read Black Viper & turned off the 'automatic updates' in services. And could not get today's M$ updates. So back to services 'start' auto update service.
Still no luck, had to 'start' background intelligent transfer service. This effort i was rewarded with 2 critical updates.

Is there a way to get the updates and have one or both services disabled?

Turn off auto update.Go to update site manually and use custom button to see and pick only the updates you want and need.Get them here, http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us and office updates here if needed. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/default.aspx

The updates themselves come straight from M$, but you don't need auto update and BITS running. WindizUpdate works like a kind of tailored Technet search.

 

AutoPatcher is another 3rd party pack for 2000/XP/2003 (not recommended by MS).
I have just found out, that they have made a pack for Vista, I am gonna check it out.
