Not sure this is exactly what you are looking for but I use AxCrypt to encrypt the files I want encrypted. Seems to work and it is free. Hopes this helps a little.

FYI -- Note that both Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat allow the user to encrypt a document, without the use of any additional software.

I too would go with Axcrypt, been using it for ages and no complaints.

In the case of Microsoft Word 2007, select “Prepare | Encrypt Document”. In the case of Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, select “Advanced | Security | Encrypt”.

There are other very good encryption apps out but for the circumstances you have given us, AxCrypt still seems like the best choice.

    Hi;

AxCrypt is a good program and I have used it a couple of times but I prefer container type encryption.

Ashampoo Magical Security has a free edition you can also check it out. But this one doesn support drive encryption.

You may wanna try The Vaut which has a thread here in wilders. It provides a container type encryption wherein you can import/add files from your drive to the "vault container". The original files will remain the same but you will have an encrypted one in the container.

Another popular container type encryption is TrueCrypt. It's also free and has the capability to hide the container when you dismount it.

You may wanna check out these thread links.

    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=244171&highlight=vault development

or alternatively have a look at this, a lot have contributed to this but is not directly encryption for files but have useful info here:

    Kind regards,

I guess what you want is a simple application, where you can just drop files and they will be encrypted and saved back at the original location, maybe with another extension.
But how do you need to have the decrypt implemented? Similar, dragging them into a "decrypt" area?
This might be a cool, very simple to use application, if ever there is one like that.

Mantra, have you considered using WinZip to create an encrypted archive? The archive (.ZIP or .ZIPX) can maintain the source folder structure, file names remain unaltered, and file "drag & drop" is supported. It’s a simplistic version of an encrypted virtual drive, but that may be what you are seeking.

Winzip is the solution I think. Not only because of the encryption, also because of the compression.

If not, I can write such a program, if there is interest enough.
Maybe with just AES/SHA256, simple, small, encrypt, decrypt, delete drop zones.

    cool
    could be great

maybe the ability to add a header to the files , so the program with a scan could detect the ecrypted files in the hard disks:thumb:

I have made a prototype, as simple to use as possible.
It has 3 drop zones, one for encrypt files, one for decrypt files and one for delete files.
You can just drop the files to the drop zones, and that it.
I might have by tomorrow a alpha version ready.

No, its not hard to add a search feature, but you should be aware that searching for encrypted files on one or more hard-drives can be quiet time consuming.

@mantra: I have written a prototype, with the wiorking name "QuickCrypt".
Its VERY simple, only drag and drop interface, and stand-alone executable.
    Its available at http://www.freesoftwaretoolbox.com
Let me know if what you want is something like that.

    yes it's perfect!!

    ony some advises
    1)an unmask password option
2)delete the orignal file option after encrypt i mean i want to encrypt test.txt-->encrypted test.txt and keep the same file extension
    3)a start button

may i know which encrypt engine does it use?
