People’s mistakes are using File Share programs without any Software Firewall Protection, not updating Windows via Windows Updates, not using any Anti-Virus & Anti-Trojan Protections, and many of those who do don’t have them properly configured and/or Software & Definitions kept updated. Also crucial to constantly keep checking the official homepages for p2p Software updates. It’s not advisable to use p2p Software that bundles Spyware, won’t hurt to-do a bit of research before Installing p2p Software. Normally official homepages of the p2p Software is good place to start; number of p2p Software that doesn’t bundle Spyware has info on its Official homepages stating their products don’t contain Spyware. For instance WinMX; WinMX v3.31 [http://www.winmx.com/] [http://dld96.winmx.com/281553512/winmx331.exe] WinMX being around for sometime and I never known it to be a threat, it’s highly respected by many including many I know. Now I don’t use it so I won’t recommend it, but for those who do use it or used it and would like to properly configure rules for it do the following; Create two Authorizing rules; one for TCP, and another for UDP. TCP Listen: 6699 UDP In/Out: 6257 These two rules are an addition to the current “TCP : Authorize most common Internet services” rule found in EnhancedRulesSet.rls and “TCP : Allow” rule found in Phant0m``s Rule-set. Also keep the WinMX TCP Authorizing rule above “TCP : Block incoming connections” rule. Also set WinMX Application into “Applications..” for the both rules. Two Images attached for guidance. Enjoy!
