LMDE installer and webcam...

    I almost posted in the privacy threads but decided against.
    I have recently migrated to Linux Mint Debian from Linux Mint Ubuntu, main reason - Canonical - my mistrust in them and the direction they are heading, but thats another topic surely.
    I was shocked to notice whilst installing LMDE that the laptop webcam fired up. I'm pretty sure I remember right and it happens on the create a username/password page of the installer. At the very least the webcam light turns on for a second or two.

    Can anyone pls shed any light on this, tell me the installer is not taking my photo as I install.

    It is indeed taking your photo as you install, so that it can present you with said photo as a login picture associated with your user. Ubuntu also does this. I very much doubt that it sends anything back to home base.

    well I'm quite surprised I have never noticed this before :eek: ...Live and learn,
    nothing a well placed thumb or a small piece of gaffers tape can't solve.
