Well, if you really want to see a tutorial on some of what iptables can do (quite lengthy and first part explains a good deal of terminology), see here and this is the man page.

Basically, it is pretty powerful, although I do not like its syntax or use as much as some other firewalls...

    Cheers,

im still undecided on what adsl 2 modem/router to get.
linksys/belkin and netgear seem to have 50/50 good and bad reviews.
i have seen a cheap zyzel for £40 with a free USB dongle.
    and a linksys WAG200G for £37
    i just need a stable adsl 2 modem/router
it has to be wireless and support both wpa and wep
and be able to change dns settings so i can use opendns.

I replaced my WRT54GX4 with a Linksys WRVS4400N, for wireless, and it is one of the best that I have ever had or worked with. It is a little pricey, but not too much more than the WRT I had.

You can't go wrong with ZyXEL, NetGear, Belkin or D-Link... ;)

    Hi Guys,

My NetGear router, wired, is ancient in computing time, 2004. Has the technology improved such that I should replace it with a newer model.

    Take Care
