I'm running Fedora. It phones home to Google and The Fedora project.
Tried to fix it by disabling all daemons that don't need to be active, deleted
search engine plugins from Firefox and disabled Google checking for
suspected forgery sites. Don't have a Google toolbar and don't use Gmail.
I never want have any contact with the biggest data mining company in
the world unless the contact is initiated by myself and through a proxy
(preferably couple of chained proxies would be even better)
    .

All Fedora bookmarks are deleted and update checking in also disabled.
The Fedora thing might be tricky. It could be more deeper in root files.
I noticed these by looking at the traffic on Iptraf. These connections usually
happen when starting to browse the web. Any ideas how to snip these buggers off?

Even in this case Firefox regularly downloads updates to the lists of phishing and malware sites from Google anonymously. See http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/phishing-protection/ . No reason to worry.

With respect to Fedora: I'm not using that distribution, but most probably it simply looks for updates.

    how to disable it. ;)

lodore: No i didn't send the hardware info. Smolt and updates have been disabled since
    day one.
