While a new version of Windows is surely exciting, that won't be the only operating system getting a new version later in the year. You see, the Linux Mint developers have shared some exciting news about when version 20.3 of the Ubuntu-based distro will be available for download.

In a blog post that mostly focuses on the current Linux Mint 20.2 and a planned website redesign (yawn), head developer Clement Lefebvre slips in an actual interesting tidbit. Lefebvre says, "The next development cycle is now open and the next target is Linux Mint 20.3. It is planned for Christmas 2021."

With that said, the Mint developers are usually pretty reliable when it comes to deadlines, so it should be safe to expect a new version of the Linux distro under your Christmas tree this year -- figuratively speaking, of course.

Linux Mint 20.3 “Una” Arrives This Christmas with Dark Apps and Other Visual Changes

Linux Mint 20.3 will be dubbed “Una” and will be the third major update to the Linux Mint 20 series based on the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa) operating system series, which, of course, will be supported with software updates and security patches until 2025.

Apart from these “under-the-hood” changes, Linux Mint 20.3 “Una” will ship with some interesting visual changes, namely dark mode support for the Celluloid, GNOME Terminal, Hypnotix, Pix, and XViewer apps even when you’re using a light theme.

“Dark mode is configurable in every single application we ship dark by default. So if you don’t like Hypnotix, Celluloid, Pix, Xviewer or GNOME Terminal to be dark, you’ll be able to disable that in each one of them,” said Clement Lefebvre in Linux Mint’s monthly newsletter for September 2021.
Apart from these visual changes, the upcoming Linux Mint release will probably include updated apps with new features and improvements, as well as other changes that will be announced in the coming months.

Good News. I been using MINT on a UFD for years to bail out windows when she squeaks or don't want to boot.

MINT on it's own is been a dream too. And I don't know diddly much on Linux but it is very cool to have good options.
