Installed LinkScanner Lite a few days ago and have noticed a reg ref to CallingID. Are these from the same company ?

When I uninstalled LinkScanner Lite it left an unreasonable amount of junk behind - which I removed manually from the reg.

Having cleaned up I installed LinkScanner Lite again and the Calling ID reg ref appeared again with the same time stamp.

I have written to LinkSanner and await a reply. I understood that they were a legitimate company so ho they will be able to explain.

Afaik no they are not by the same company. LinkScanner is from Exploit Prevention Labs and CallingID is from CallingID.

Link Scanner uses CallingID's database as a first step in determining the safety of a site.

Thanks Guys - I will probably try out a few others but its good to know that
nothing nasty was loaded with LinkScanner. I still have to wonder why the program is so badly behaved when it comes to uninstall - is it that difficult to remove refs ? also why have CallingID and then just a bunch of numbers ? is this
too difficult to name things so that they can be read and understood.

Currently trying another one called finjan - I wonder if there is much difference ?

I had a problem removing it too. Used the uninstall program but it is still listed as an empty folder in my start menu with me unable to delete it. I am on Vista, so I don't know if that is part of the problem.

I like Link Scanner have purchased couple of licenses for it,
but on certain computers it just does not play nice, and you
need to follow the uninstall options, heres instructions that I
received when contacting their technical support.

Please follow the steps below, to make sure you have a clean LinkScanner Pro installation.

    1. Uninstall LinkScanner Pro and reboot when prompted.
Directions can be found here: http://explabs.com/kb/display.asp?id=64
    2. Delete the following files:
    C:\Program Files\ExPLabs.com
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ExPLabs.com
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
    Data\{7D0BF2E1-9FE7-497A-B92F-0741525B8EF1}
(This file may have different letters and numbers in it. The way to tell if it is
the correct folder is to open it.
If you see any files with LinkScanner in the title, please delete the entire
    folder)
The last 2 files are hidden, you will need to enable hidden files and folders, if
    you do not already have
then enabled. To do this, please open My Computer and click on the Tools
    menu along the top.
Choose Folder Options from the drop-down list. Click on the View Tab. Put a
green dot next to Show Hidden Files
and Folders and click OK. You should now be able to browse to these files
    and remove them
    3. Reboot
    4. Run a Disk Cleanup. To do this, Open My Computer and right click on your C:drive.
Choose properties from the list. Click on Disk Cleanup on the right hand side
    of the page.
(about half way down) Make sure to check Temporary Internet Files and
Temporary Files from the list you are presented with.
    5. Reboot
    6. Download the newest installer here:
    http://explabs.com/products/lspro_trial.asp
    7. Run the installer and reboot.

Good luck with Link Scanner hope you get the problems resolved.

    Regards,

    Wake
