    Hi guys,

I would like to know is there any light virtualization tool other than ShadowUser Pro which supports supports continuation of a single shadow session across system restarts?

I wanna install one copy onto my new computers with Windows 10, but no luck after googled for a few days.

    Thank you!

Sorry, can't help you with this. But are you saying that ShadowUser Pro does support this feature? I didn't even know this was technically possible.

Shadowuser was abandoned by its developer because of piracy.

O... too bad... I really think that single shadow session across system restarts is an excellent feature. Really can't believe there is no alternative for providing such function (even software from China/ Russia/ etc... ) :(

I just looked at stuff on Shadowuser. Like Shadow Defender today you can set it so it reboots back into a shadow session. But any changes are lost. Do you have anything that explicitly describes what you think it does

I think that the belief was at the time that if you installed a program that required re-boot to complete the full install that ShadowUser Pro would accomodate to that. I tried it back then but as far as I remember never tried the installing software that required re-boot aspect. At one time Tony said that Shadow Defender would do the same within a certain time frame and there was much excitement and debate but it never happened. I never really discovered what the factors were that made Tony abandon the idea.

Yes indeed, I used it for quite a while and was happy about the idea of persistence across reboots. In those days most programs required a reboot upon installing, nowadays it is a rare event therefore Shadow Defender is more than adequate. The frequency of Windows upgrades (at least twice a year) would make persistence a daunting task technically speaking...

Rollback RX does what the OP needs. It is what i use to test softwares and avoid bad Windows Updates to cripple my system.

Not really "light virtualization" but since they do the same (writes are redirected) it is good enough to me.

Yes, you guys are right. One of the reason that I wanna find an alternative to ShadowUser Pro is for testing softwares that requires reboot during installations. Another reason is that I remember before using ShadowUser Pro, I just used PowerShadow. I always forgot to save the important stuffs to other persistency area (e.g. thumb drive), and always cause these stuffs lost after I shut down/ reboot the machine. ShadowUser Pro gave me a chance to "rescue" these stuffs after reboot.

Anyway, I will try both Shadow Defender and Rollback RX home and also Sandboxie and see which one of them suit my current need.

Thank you guys for your comments and advise!

There is an actively developed app which can do what you are looking for, but it is only available in Korean.
Have in mind that these posts are written in 2012:

Latest Diskshot version is from December 2017, but the fan made translation from @dax123 should still apply, because all the changes till now are under the hood changes. See:

Thank you so much for your suggestion~! But... I really need your help to explain more so that I can have a try on this software...
    1. Is that the translation from @dax123 you mentioned just the screen provided on that thread, but still no unofficial translation patch released yet?
    2. Is that there is still the home version, which is freeware, on this link http://www.diskshot.com/downloads ?
3.1. Is there any where else for the information about comparing different version of DiskShot?
3.2. Is there any where else to mention the limitation of the Demo key?
3.3. Is there any where else to mention how to buy, how much of the paid version, etc.?

Please accept for so many question about, as I am blind in Korean, and I find that the official website is wholly written in Korean......

I am blind in Korean, too.

    1. Yes, only screens, because Diskshot has self-protection.
    2. Yes, home version is free, but you need to register there http://www.diskool.com/. Try to register using Google Translate. After you register go here:
    http://www.diskool.com/my_license
3.1. I think that only difference is how many computers you use. I am not sure, try with Google Translate.
3.2. Demo key is limited to 15 days, no other limitations. Home licence is limited to 1 year, but just go to http://www.diskool.com/my_license again and you will find the new 1 year key.
3.3. You don't need the paid version, home version is complete.
