People and organizations that donate periodically are essential for a safer internet, according to certificate authority Let's Encrypt. The project celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and now provides six hundred million domains with free TLS certificates. Something that Shannon Robinson of the ISRG says is due to all recurring donations. Let's Encrypt is a project of the Internet Security Research Group (ISRG).
"Recurring donations are more than financial support; they let us plan, innovate and improve with confidence because we know that month after month, year after year, our supporters are there. This continuous support allows us to maintain a secure and privacy-respecting internet for everyone," Robinson continues. She thanks all donors from Lets' Encrypt.
In recent months, more projects have expressed the need for donations. For example, last month the Tor Project started a new campaign to find more annual donors. Mozilla is also asking users for donations after it will not receive $3.5 million from the US government. Earlier, email client creators Thunderbird also said that less than three percent of users donate.
