I just got the same and so am feeling a little happier now i can see it wasn't just me. I also checked and didn't receive an email warning of an upcoming patch from Microsoft as I normally do... all in all a bit strange.

I got the same thing but after uninstalling KB3004394, KB3024777 seems to have disappeared without installing. Maybe it's a fix for that?

Apparently this is literally the only place on the internet that mentions this new mystery update.

I can confirm this. I removed Update KB3004394 and rebooted my PC. After the reboot I checked for updates and KB3024777 was no where to be found.

    Hi All!
My first message... Maybe a breaking news?
    Well, I got this update
immediately installing iTunes. Windows was not detecting my new iPhone 6 Plus and showing errors in Device Manager. After a reboot I just checked for updates and got KB3024777 and then iTunes issue fixed!
So maybe Apple and Microsoft are plaing in this game?:)
    Thanks

Windows has now activated their KB3024777 "More Information" link to read:

The KB 3004394 update that was dated December 10, 2014 can cause additional problems on computers that are running Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. This includes the inability to install future updates. This new update is available to remove KB 3004394 from your computer.

For more information about the KB 3004394 update, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Ugh! The fix fixes nothing here as it (3024777) keeps failing. I even manually downloaded and installed but it still won't remove it (3004394). Then I tried removing it (3004394) via programs>view updates and that fails too!

I did remove KB3004394 as soon as it became known that it had been pulled. Now I checked WU and KB3024777 doesn't show. Guess I don't need to install the latter one since I deleted KB3004394 previously? https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3024777

From now on I will wait for a week after Patch Tuesdays to install Windows updates.

PS: I just checked Windows Update again and no new update is being offered.

I installed the "fix" update KB3024777 yesterday afternoon and it installed successfully. Checked Control Panel to view installed files afterwards and KB3004394 was no longer installed on my computer. Seems to have fixed my issue. Also able to open Command Prompt and ran "sfc/verifyonly" (no ") as administrator and no integrity violations detected. Seems that KB3024777 fixed this issue...for now anyway. What a mess Microsoft has created! Hours of time researching the source of trouble and trying to find a fix. Precious time many of us don't have and this close to the holidays and year-end. Grrrr

So what I ended up doing! I could not install this update either through Updates or downloading it and manually running it. I could also not manually remove KB 3004394 via the update list.

Uninstall KB3004394 via Control Panel/Programs and Features/Uninstall/View Installed Updates, re start your Puter and you'll find that KB3024777 will show up again as an update. Install the KB3024777 update and you'll find that the update will be successful or at least it was for me. Seems like KB3024777 will not install if KB3004394 is still on the system.
