Those of you who have KAV Personal 6.0 experience and don't like it, could you please post your reasons why.

Please, no flaming against people who have critical opinions of the product you like.

I'm especially looking for a reason, why NOT to switch from NOD32 as my main on-guard resident scanner to KAV6 personal.

Like (my previous experience with KAV):

    - very slow under high file use scenario (if you develop software and do a compile, KAV would slow the computer to a crawl when the source tree was accessed during compiles)
    - does not warn if resident shield turns itself off (just keeps on chugging, but if resident shield fails, it doesn't warn you)

    Or any other reason?

I've been really happy with NOD32, but I'd like get improvement on :

    - earlier detection of virii/worms
    - better removal ability of detected worms/trojans
    - more robust update feature (I succeed with NOD32 updates only daily)

Without hampering down on speed or "set-it-and-forget-it" approach that NOD32 offers.

What is your experience with KAV 6 Personal?

    Thank you in advance!

PS I'm not out to start a "which is better KAV or NOD" fight. I just want opinions, especially critical ones usually drowned in the shouts of those who like the product (for good reasons). I want to know, before I install :)

I wonder which would be the reason for a thread like that??
Anyway ...wait till MP1 is out that is running smoothly.
Today TR(Technical release, build 394) was released so build 399(?) will be released soon.

Mp1 corrects all the major problems of Kav 6 build 303.

    My personal opinion is..
    that kav is great.

I tested KAV and ended up disregarding it as it messed up my filesystem. Several others (but not by any means a majority) have reported similar issues.

The symptoms for me were first that chkdsk started to stick a very long time at 0% in phase 2. This time increased with each KAV scan. Eventually (after a day or two) it became so bad that chkdsk started crashing out with an unspecified error.

Acronis Trueimage also became unable to analyze my drive for backup.

Uninstalling KAV did not have an effect. The only fix was to restore an image from before installing KAV.

I reproduced this on my machine several times, as well as in vmware sessions. For me it was completely consistent and reproducible.

Needless to say, I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy unless thoroughly tested on the target system. And even then I'd be slightly worried.

Apart from that, I can't think of anything to dissuade anyone from going KAV. It looks good, plenty of options, performance appeared much better to me than previous versions. And detection is excellent, of course.

also if the guard turns off in kaspersky 6.0 it says some protection componats have been turned off in a big box in the middle of the screen so no problems there no more.

Interesting... I ran chkdsk the other day on a number of my drive partitions (on 2 separate HDs) which had reported file allocation errors (I couldn't run my defragger on the drives until these errors were repaired). KAV was running and it caused no problems with running chkdsk, and the drives were all repaired and now defragged.

though i now use KIS 6 with no problem, i didnt like KAV 6 when i first tried it. these were my complaints:

1.) it slowed down my comp a lil bit

2.) scans were slow! almost 3 hours iirc.

I have been running KAV trial version for a week or so, after deciding not to renew my Trend micro license. My PC has not slowed down one bit, and in fatc boot and shutdown times are reduced. Full initial system scan took an hour or two, and it found a couple of low risk gremlins that Trend had overlooked.

I switched on the registry monitoring component of KAV but I see that it could become annoying, and may switch it off again.

Tried out Kav 5 a while back and it was a bit of a pig so got rid of it.

Read how much the latest Kav had improved in regards to resources and statup so decided to give it another go.

Quite impressed with this version as it certainly has improved with the icon appearing nearly instantly with the system tray at startup.

Startup scan, Web and proactive defence are disabled.

The scan "only new or changed files" results in scans of C in under 20 seconds.

Note - I do have a gig of ddr and run a thinned out XP pro.

Even though I consider Sandboxie as my mainstay security app for surfing I just sorta feel naked without seeing an AV or FW icon sitting there.

I have been using KAV since early versions like 4.5 or something, and of all the versions I´ve tested this the best (6.0) :)
    - Low resource usage
    - Nice GUI compared to earlier versions.
    - Good removal of infections capabilities compared to NOD32
    - Fast updates, like twice an hour.
    - Proactive defense, good layer of defense if you accomplish to understand it.
    - Scans times get lower after a few ones, using iSwift and iChecker technologies.

    Among others.

I also suggest to wait till the MP1 is finally released.

    Thanks for all the comments.

I asked, because like some others above, I've had really bad experience with my previous KAV trial.

I hate re-installing my work systems , even if from an image. A useless time-wasting hassle I can live without.

    That's why I asked :)

Thanks for all the comments and being civil, I really appreciate it. I'll wait for MP1 at the very least.

Time to renew my NOD32 I guess.

well i haven't used kaspersky at length, but my only issue with it was
1.the update use to corrupt kis itself and had to be re-installed...
    2.very very long scan times...

i can't seem to remember any other problem and update may have been resolved by now..

I used AVS (don't know if that counts) and I too have some complaints, mainly it slowed down my system and caused high CPU usage at times. It was simply not feasible to continue with it.
