Today I got a virus - zipped - in my mail box that KAV did not detect.

I had to copy the Zip file on my desktop and make a scan on demand in order to detect the virus.

Now I feel unsecure knowing that KAV will not intercept virus through Outlook 2003.

    Is it normal ?

    Thanks for your help.

What ver of KAV are you using and what settings are you using? More than likely it's the settings, otherwise the on demand wouldn't have detected it either

KAV version is in my signature: KAV 227.

Real Time Protection level is on "Maximum Protection".

Is there somthing wrong with the settings?

Your "realtime" is on MAX or your "on demand" is on MAX.

If realtime is on MAX, then it should have picked it up........might try posting in the KAV forum.

Go into the help dialog for your KAV...apparently the realtime doesn't scan archives and email databases.........here is a copy of the excerpt:

    -----------------

Specifying application actions and setting the protection level
By default, while ensuring real-time protection, Kaspersky Anti-Virus is using the Recommended settings. It denies access to all dangerous objects that are being accessed for reading, writing or execution, and displays a message prompting the user for action.

Note that archives and email databases WILL NOT BE SCANNED in the real-time protection mode! An exception is self-extracting archives, which are scanned if the Maximum Protection level is selected.

The virus was in an incoming mail.
Then it should have worked, right?

Are you sure that you have your real-time protection set to maximum? Because setting it to maximum will slow your pc down considerably. I would recommend first updating KAV to 5.0.325 then try the settings I suggest HERE, I have yet to see a virus slip by using these settings. I also know for a fact that KAV detects this worm easily, it catches it frequently in my inbox.

    :D
