Lol, how did I miss this little gem? Well, I won't get the pitchforks and torches just yet, because there are a lot of hackers out there that went to the good side, but that is kind of funny :)

Mixing words?...i have no clue what you mean trjam.Ive already said its more like threatfire ,and a comparison to that is fairer in my view. You seem to be taking this very much to heart for no reason. If there is something wrong with this program then say so.If other professional vendors have tested it and says its crap privately to you then i understand why you cant disclose that. However if its something that you have found from testing yourself ,then please disclose.Things are getting personal here for no reason.Comparing iilya to katie for example in such an obscure way seems a little personal to me..and also so what if it went from paid to free for marketing reasons?.Isnt threatfire doing that too?.All folks are interested in are facts, especially when it comes to security. Please dont take things so personal.

    Hi

I agree. There's no need to get annoyed over an argument like this.

    Thanks

Lol, do you just randomly jump into threads? Look peeps, Trjam made a comment about DS not passing a lot of tests...big whoop. There are PLENTY of legit reasons to not disclose the information. Should he have bothered saying anything in the first place? He probably would have taken less grief if he hadn't, but he did bother, so what? Hell, I don't even know what he meant by the Katie/Ilya comment, and I don't care, lol. The point is, he evidently knows something because he said it and he is one of the posters that can be trusted in my eyes. Again, he would have saved some grief had he not said anything, but his comments steer me even further away from DS now. And Someone, quit dropping into every post with these 1 line statements and typing "I agree", it drives me insane.

Edit: Damn, between this thread and my other one I must be one pissed off dude today, lol.

I guess since you cannot get DS to work on your system then its not important to you. However for those of us who have purchased it and are actively using it ,then of course trjams comments are important.I too respect trjam and his contributions ,however more info rather than " i know but cant tell you because the person who tested it told me not to and wont disclose anything themselves" borders on the absurd. If theres a problem then for gods sake tell us folks who are currently using it ,so we can make an informed desicion as to the usefulness of it ,and also save those who may be think of buying it some money.

    Trjam,

For your information, DriveSentry is Free for home users so that we can increase our user base, grow our Advisor Community and educate people on DriveSentry's new approach to protection. There is no hidden adgenda here. After the first 30 days if the user wishes to continue receiving automatic signature updates, they will need to pay 10 dollars to enable the trickle feed feature.

DriveSentry offers users a great security product which can be used for free and should not be critisized for this. We do not have huge over heads like many other companies and are obsessed with providing the very best we can for our users.

Finally our CTO is an Ex hacker so is extremely in touch with potential vulnerabilities and preventative techniques to combat such threats to your system and data.

    thanks for your opinions tryjam.

    regards,

    Kate.

I love to hear everyone's opinions, comments and feedback, whether it is positive or negative. My name is KATIE and i DO EXIST - im not a marketing ploy.

Our aim at DriveSentry is to provide a new approach to protection as traditonal antivirus solutions continue to struggle to keep up with the fast rise in malware. We want to provide the very best for our users and will take all constructive comments and feedback onboard.

Thanks again for all of your input, but please, less of the nastiness :doubt: !!

    kind regards

    Kate. ;)

Wilders is a land full of skeptics, testers, experts, and paranoids (I proudly belong to that last group :) )....it's going to get ugly in here from time to time. I honestly (though of course I don't speak for him) don't think Trjam meant to slight you personally. He belongs to the tester AND skeptic group IMHO, so that leads to strong opinions sometimes :)

Edit: Lol, look at me playing peacekeeper now when 4 hours ago I was a hellbent, pissed off SOB in a couple of these threads. See? Beer IS good for you!

Edit: Oh, to Ellison, I DO have an interest in DS which is why I made a post. Unlike some, I don't make a post just to see my own writing and watch my post count go up. And if you understand how the security business works, then you don't need to be reminded that knowing about vulnerabilities but not disclosing them until a certain time or only to certain people is NORMAL. For all you know Trjam's mentioned people could be in contact with DS letting them know about it so they can fix it and not cause a firestorm of worries for their customers.

Lol, no that fellow is in a totally different business called "pay me and I'll give you a nice spot at the top of my recommended list with a great view!" The researchers I'm referring to keep information close at hand until the right time all the time, it's a pretty normal practice.

Hi Dw,I agree with you thats what makes it a great forum and trjam OP may seem strong but I respect his opinion. I tend to believe Him and he know His Beep If you know what I mean. Its not like some newbie stepped in here having bashing day software contest. His contribution to threads have been some learning ones for me.If he says something about a given app I tend to believe.Beside Is it for me to defend the company or there app hell no.I am not on there pay roll.:argh:

100% agree. Like he himself said, in time we'll see how things pan out. Armed with the warning he gave, vague or not, I'm not touching DS. That's not a personal shot at Katie, that's not a personal shot at the ex-hacker turned good head honcho, not even a personal shot at the software itself. It's just what any sensible person would do.

@Someone: There is more than one of those here, and no, I'm not going on a mud-slinging campaign and bringing names out. It's unnecessary and off-topic of this thread.

I have to say that I'm very disapointed with DriveSentry (3.1) at this moment. Program do what ever it want and doesn't care anything about my settings.

    Here is my settings:

    Upload Stats - No

Auto block malicious programs - No
Show auto allow notification popup - Yes
Auto allow white listed programs - No
Auto allow community trusted programs - No

    Scanner Enabled - No

    Trickle signature updates - Unselected

Then I select Protection-Standard-Revert to Default. Now I have default options with Advisor blocked as much as possible... Then I clean Access Rules totally so I can generate my own. Reboot and voila! After reboot all my startup programs can write to removable media, registry and (any) files anywhere without single question. Okay not a big deal because I trust those programs. Then I start Firefox and exactly same thing. Luckily I have selected Show auto allow notification popup - Yes setting so I know that DS connect to Advisor and just allow Firefox. What the hell?! I like to control my computer with my own brains.

This thread is about DS, not me. And you might want to think twice when it comes to putting a 100 percent of faith in my judgement. Most is by trial and error.;)

Let me clarify a few things and then I am out of this thread. My reference to Ilya. Well, if you are going to bring a new product to market in a male dominated forum, then Katie, not to sound sexist, but you are the right rep if the vendor wants quick attention. And no one can fault DS for that. Actually fairly smart. Ilya, an older Russian physicist, more then likely if he posted his photo for an avatar, would not get the same reaction. No offense Ilya, its whats inside of your head, not on the outside that counts and you have proven that.

My refernce to John Safa, that could have been ommited because in the end, we are all hackers in one small way or another. Think about it. Also, we have dirt in our pasts and what counts is how we hold ourselves accountable in the present and future tense of life. So it really is a cheap shot on my part and I apologize to him for that.

As for my remarks on its lack of ability in testing. They are accurate. Doesnt matter if you think I am right or wrong but it failled dismally. No, I did not test it. No, the person or persons who did are not going to notify DS. And that is all there is. I own 2 copies and dont use it. That is not to say in 6 months or a year, their protection wont improve and I may be using it as my avatar. But in its current state, it is about in the middle when it comes to a AV or HIPS, where ever you decide to place it, in protection, and that aint good enough for me. So say what you want, but I would never say anything here to mislead a member. And DS has shown, it is working hard to improve its product. Damn, if you want proof, aigle, Peter, there are plenty of visible members who can test it. Me? I have the best.;)

I can confirm your results.I also removed firefox from trusted list ,and also firefox access rules.I restarted DS.The settings seem to have stuck and theres no firefox showing in trusted or access rules.Firefox still connects and shows allowed in logs. This is serious and at this moment renders it useless and dangerous.

Yes you are correct again. One thing ive just noticed is that (according to vista firewall control)advisor seems to be connecting via a proxy and port 443 even when trickler and uploading of stats is set to off....why is that?
