Since it is a Russian AV, should we trust KIS?

If you dont trust, dont use it.
IMO it is the best antivirus solution of the market and many tests (from years ago and actual ones) demonstrated it.

Kaspersky Lab since version 6.0 (2005/2006) made almost all competitors play catch-up with technological advancements.

"IMO it is the best antivirus solution of the market and many tests (from years ago and actual ones) demonstrated it." - I guess thats a opinion and my experience with it right?

If I didnt trust it I wouldnt say it is "the best antivirus solution", but if you feel uncomfortable about the fact that Eugene Kaspersky graduated from The Technical Faculty of the KGB Higher School, it is better to uninstall it.

    So what we have:

1- Kaspersky System Watcher has proved many times in many different tests that it is a very good solution against Ransomwares and other malwares.
2- Nobody on this forum can prove that Kaspersky Lab products are backdoors from Russia GOV.
3- In the end is all up to you if you trust or dont, I personally DO!

FWIW: Last week during a hearing before The Senate Intelligence Committee on Global Threats, the subject of Kasperky was raised. Every head of the major intelligence agencies (CIA, NSA, DNI, and NGA) emphatically stated that they would not personally use it and that they had their agency's systems swept to assure that no Kasperky product was on it and that no contractor on or connected to their systems used Kaspersky or any component of it.

Both the Chief of The CIA and the head of The NSA stated that the Kasperky Issue had risen to their level and that they were personally engaged with the Kasperky Issue.

But that's The US Government and given the current state of affairs respecting hacking by Russian state-connected hackers one would expect to have heard nothing different, even if only for optics sake.

With that said,I doubt you will hear any member here say that they have had an "experience" where Kaspersky somehow invaded their privacy and shared data with a Russian Intelligence Agency. Not sure what assurance you are looking for but I believe that most here would not shy away from Kaspersky because of rumors respecting a close relationship with Russian Intelligence.

I personally never felt totally comfy with it on my system but agreed to open my system to Kasperky's malware network gathering nonetheless.I'd likely still be using it but for the fact that starting a few years ago and every year since, KIS did not play well with my system.

I admittedly feel better using the customer-privacy-centric Emsisoft rather than Kaspersky.

Conspiracy theories floating around about Russia tells people something about American intelligence.

Especially since they have worked hard to find proof its true and they have come up empty.

As for Kaspersky, its an excellent security product and it has nothing to do with the political situation today.

I'd rather trust a russian company, than an US company...

I don't mind, if others think the opposite way...

I appreciate ALL replies. I have used it for years and am with Nightwalker in saying Kaspersky has been the best year in and year out. However these are not normal times. I cannot think that Kaspersky would be a tool of the Russian Govt, and still stay in business. But stranger things have happened.

I think I will change, but have to determine what to go to. I have been very surprised at the improvement AVG has made, and that is an option, except I want an IS and have not seen that for AVG. I am looking at BD, Avira, and AVG.

Many thanks to each of you, it has helped.
    Regards,
    Jerry

Where ransomware is concerned, does anyone think ANY vendor would sponsor ransomware? What would the possible motive be? Surely they make more money from selling AV. Why would anyone risk losing an international brand for a quick buck? Unless it is being proposed that they are just ignoring ransomware for the sake of their countrymen. Which would be even more ridiculous. Then they would be making no money and would be judged ineffective and would still lose an international business.
