I am probably going to get off the freebie bandwagon for a bit and buck up and buy a nice system maintenance program. But which one of these is better? Macecraft's JV16 Powertools 2007 is due out in a month or so while Ace Utilities 3.2 is already on the market. Both seem to be top of the line products. JV16 PT looks to have a few more options (which I am not sure is good or bad) but also seems to be very light on resources. Ace Utilities looks impressive and not as intimidating as JV16. Is AU also light on resources?

Which of these two would you recommend? I guess I could just give each a 30 day trial and see for myself. Maybe Ace first and when that trial is up maybe JV16 2007 will be out?

Any thoughts or suggestions between these two products? Does one outperform the other in particular areas? I would consider myself a novice when it comes to cleaning the registry and such. So the easier the better. But I also like to learn things from time to time.

    Thanks

Same here - and I trust it enough to always run in 'aggressive' mode without the backup option activated. Never had any issues with it.

in your opinion, does one clean more than the other?

Each one complements the other on cleaning...
jv16 PowerTools have more tools, but Ace Utilities is more user friendly and easy to use...

    I also use CCleaner...

Well I decided to download the 30-day trial of the Ace System Tune-up. It works pretty smoothly thus far.

My use of jv16 Power Tools was a long time ago so I can't honestly compare.
I have been using Ace Utilities for a few years and I haven't had a problem with it.
I like the registry cleaner and junk file remover in Ace the best.

to answer my own question, i installed jv16 pt and gave it a run. teh registry cleaner certainly found more items, but teh file cleaner seems buggy. i think it also finds more stuff but the duplicate/multiple entries makes it hard to tell.

    Only on a side-note:

Many, many years ago there was a very long thread at the JV16 Powertools forum. It was about comparing lots of reg-cleaners with input by many people.
Lots of details were given. Alas, that's all history now...

Really hard to choose between these 2 as they are both excellent and safe.
I'm not sure I'd be completely confident to run jv16PT in 'aggressive' mode without back ups without imaging/ snapshotting first but in normal mode it is as solid as a rock once you get over the interface that looks like it was beaten by the ugly stick circa Windows 95.
Ace Utilities is easier to use but I suspect jv16PT is just a bit more thorough.
    Just my 2 cents...
