"Antivirus pioneer John McAfee is on the run from murder charges, Belize police say. According to Marco Vidal, head of the national police force's Gang Suppression Unit, McAfee is a prime suspect in the murder of American expatriate Gregory Faull, who was gunned down Saturday night at his home in San Pedro Town on the island of Ambergris Caye."

I wasn't quite sure which section of the forum a story like this would best fit in, moderators. Hopefully this is allowed here at the forum.

It directly relates to the future of their company and therefor the quality or even existence of the product - I'd definitely say this is relevant to security.

Isn't this not the first McAfee scandal with this guy?

If I'm remembering right, this is also the same fellow with the 17 year old girlfriend? He's also come right out and admitted to being involved with gangsters in the country and seems to like his bath salts.

Edit: Here is a bit more background behind his shenanigans: http://gizmodo.com/5958877/secrets-schemes-and-lots-of-guns-inside-john-mcafees-heart-of-darkness Also, he's long gone from the company I thought. I'm not sure his issues will hurt the company itself.

He's the founder but it looks like he's left. Seems like it's run by Michael DeCesare and Todd Gebhart.

So, yea, guess it probably wouldn't change much for the company.

I definitely remember reading quite a number of scandals involving him. Bath salts are crazy stuff.

With all of the negative press surrounding him I've really surprised intel hasn't just rebranded McAfee under a new name.

Sometimes a name is valuable and sometimes not. I'm sure Peter Norton has nothing to do with Norton anymore but the name is familiar to everyone. I have to wonder if Intel will want to keep this name.

When it goes to court, I guess it will be a thirty day trial.

Sounds like a good idea any way. Re-work the software, make it lean and make a free version. Then change the name to something like M&T Pro. McAfee has earned the reputation of being expensive bloatware.

All because he wanted to avoid the lawsuits in the U.S. The man should have just stayed there and worked through it all. The guy has a lot of issues obviously, and he's very much acting guilty regardless of his "fear of being tortured into confession", which is far less likely there than in its neighbors.

His chances of living a long life dropped considerably anyway the moment he decided to start playing with drug runners and gangs. You don't last long unless you climb your way to the top. And then you have to worry every day you wake up about keeping the throne.

He's a druggie, they get that way. More on topic, he can't hide forever unless he attended the same crime class as D.B Cooper at least :D Getting out of Belize will require some paying off of accomplices and a good amount of luck, and staying in Belize won't work forever because eventually he'll run out of hiding spots. He'll have very few places to actually live once out of there because of extradition treaties in place and friendships with other nations. The few places where his kind flourish are the very places he'd not last long either due to stupidity or allies getting what they want out of him and then being told his "services are no longer required", and we know what that entails.

What a life he's had :D Sounds like a film script might be on the way !

I don't condone him killing that person, even if the dogs were poisoned. But i can understand his anger/distress etc.

There are a number of bogus John McAfee Twitter accounts. Those that Tweet would be advised to avoid them.
