People using Ixquick/Startpage have probably noticed this change recently. There's a link on the homepage about it:

    https://www.ixquick.com/eng/press/ixquick-privacy-gets-better.html

It no longer records browser type & platform information (user agent). I remember a thread about tweaking Firefox (about:config) to make it's privacy as strong as possible without add-ons & other means. And the user agent string was one particularly troublesome item. No more... for Ixquick users.

An already awesome search engine, and just continues to get better.

Ixquick doesn't record it anyway when you do searches. But I imagine it couldn't stop the sites you visit themselves from recording it. I re-worded the title of the post to reflect that.

Use both, that way you might get different (and thus, more) results ! :)

Their search claims to not be recording the user agent, but it still requires one to be sent. From their search page after a typical search:
Duckduckgo doesn't require a user agent to be sent.

they offer a proxy service if you want more privacy, although i never tried it.
in any search result, you can select "View by Ixquick proxy".
