Great find, I have found 2 of these laptops on that site that are absolutely killer spec-wise for the value:

    https://www.eluktronics.com/Prometheus-XVII
    https://www.eluktronics.com/RP-17

Now, the second one looks like a scam, because such good specs for only $1400 you'd think you're gonna get scammed like those accounts that get closed in a few days because they get reported on ebay amazon etc. and they realize they are just scamming people.

But I tried to look for the difference between the two (there's also another one that's $1700 and is lighter than the two, but I don't see that as a reason for an extra $100, its weight is less than a pound less than the $1600 one anyway):

    - Reviews say the $1400 is hot and has loud fans, you will need a cooling pad for sure and hopefully it doesn't throttle. Well, for such good specs for $1400, something has gotta get skimped on right? And this something is apparently the fans and heat sink and whatever else is involved with cooling the laptop down

    - The $1600 one has Rgb hinges

    - The $1600 one has -Ultra Large Glass Touchpad - This touchpad is so large that there is actually a zone that's just a tap-tap away to shutdown a good portion. We've also fine-tuned the entire touchpad disable function so your wrist should no longer power on the touchpad during a gaming session. If you want to be certain, the function of double tapping the corners to disable a zone or the entire touchpad can even be shut down in our latest Control Center!
The $1400 one has a smaller touchpad, you can see the difference, but you'll likely be using a mouse anyway

    - The $1600 one has
Upright IR Camera - Yes, some of our previous models had a nose cam which we've now happily said farewell to in 2021.

Enhanced Thermal Design - The Prometheus XVII has the best thermal system we've ever offered. 5 copper heat pipes, 11mm dual fans with 67 fan blades increases 10% CFM over our MAX-17 series from 2020. This chassis is capable of handling up to a whopping 150 watts when paired with the RTX 3080 graphics option!

Control Center 3.0 - Choose your battery mode for improved health and cycle of your battery. Overclocking options at your fingertips. Select your own CPU PL settings, custom power and fan profiles, GPU wattage and more!
Integrated MUX Controller - Choose your graphics options depending on your needs with these two options:

Optimus - System automatically chooses between the dedicated GPU and integrated GPU based on application. Recommended for daily use.

dGPU - Disables the integrated graphics and runs directly off of the graphics card. A very exciting feature for content creators and gamers, but consumes far more battery life when on the go.

High Color Production Panels - At a minimum, the Prometheus XVII display included is 96% sRGB or higher. Gamers and content creators quite often want the same quality and panel hardware so we're merging them together. Every unit is individually factory calibrated with a color accuracy delta E < 2h.

Power Mode Button - Choose your power mode of Office Mode, Gaming Mode & Beast Mode or simply provide maximum fans at the press of a button!

Light Bar: Customizable RGB Light Bar

    - The $1600 one has Webcam: IR Webcam with Windows Hello Support & dual digital microphones vs Webcam: HD Webcam with dual digital microphones of the $1400 one

    - Slight usb port differences

    - The $1600 one says
Warranty: One Year standard (optional up three years) with lifetime USA based technical support , while the $1400 one says Warranty: 1 Year Eluktronics Limited

Fair to say, I do not think you will be getting loud nouses with the $1600 one (there are no reviews because it seems like it's a new model, my guess anyway). That said, some of the above things the $1400 one has too, even if they're not explicitly written, such as the power mode button.

That said, I'd get the $1600 one, I think it's worth the $200 extra, and is very very good for the price

Also the reviews are a bit irrelevant that Gandalf posted because they are old models and also 1080p screens.

However, keep this in mind https://www.reddit.com/r/eluktronics/comments/he0ulz/eluktronics_shipping_please_read/

Found a post about it https://www.reddit.com/r/GamingLapt..._30_series_prometheus_xvii_ultra_performance/

I was right in my edited post, it is a new laptop, less than a month, that is why no reviews on site. Looks like an absolutely amazing deal for $1600 with all those things to me, with the upgraded thermals and everything.

However, based on the reddit posts, it might take a few months to ship. Absolutely worth it imo.

As I said, not only is the max 17 model $100 more expensive, but also weaker than the $1600 Prometheus

    upload_2021-2-10_20-6-18.png
    upload_2021-2-10_20-6-50.png

So you're paying $100 more for weaker performance and only slightly less weight (not even a full pound).

Also make sure to read all of this https://www.reddit.com/r/eluktronics/comments/kwry7o/eluktronics_2021_news_product_update/ it contains important stuff

That said, the CEO of the company personally supervizes the laptops and everything, it's a small company but you know you're getting quality stuff, you're not gonna get scammed just because it's cheap.

    • A brand new model which I've been very excited to release is our all-new Prometheus XVII. This laptop is extremely powerful and has a very impressive thermal design. The Prometheus icon actually stemmed from "within" the thermal design itself. With up to 150 watts support for the GPU, this model is ready to compete with laptops that handle more power than most, but it still doesn't need to hold the THICC claim being less than 1" in z-height. I've been pressing our ODM for us to join the ultra powerful class for quite sometime now and this is the first. The XVII also has an ultra large glass trackpad with a first-ever feature that disables most of the right half of the trackpad. This is done by double tapping the upper right hand corner. Double tapping the upper left hand corner will still disable the entire touchpad. There had been some comments in the past that a customer's wrist might occasionally re-enable the touchpad as he or she lifted and rested while moving quickly in game. The firmware has been redefined in efforts of preventing this, and a button has been added to the Control Center to disable the trackpad's capability to even press the upper corner buttons to disable. This trackpad update is taking place for our other models as well, but the top right section disable capability is exclusive to the ultra large trackpad on this model.
But yeah just go to the reddit link and read everything, no reason to paste everything here when u can do that

Also, this is what he said about upgrading the components AFTER you buy it:

You can’t replace a graphics card on a laptop, they’re soldered components. The memory and storage is easily accessible and replaceable. The secondary M.2 bay is simple to access and upgrade with a small precision Phillips head screw driver. The unfortunate part is there are two dimm/memory slots and were shipping all of our systems with both channels occupied since that helps the performance of the PC. This in turn means should you wish to upgrade the memory down the line, you’d have to buy two new sodimms to replace the current memory. You could technically buy a single 16GB or 32GB sodimm and replace just one if preferred, but I may just be weird since I prefer the common numbers such as 16GB, 32GB or 64GB.

    About shipping:

Thanks Floyd. i couldn't agree more about the value one gets with the Prometheus laptop, but build-quality remains a concern!

Well if you read my replies thoroughly, but most importantly read the reddit topics I linked you, as well as search "prometheus" in the subreddit for topics related to it, you will see there is no reason to worry about it. I would personally buy it for myself with no worries, if I used laptops that is, because from everything I've read it inspired a lot of confidence to me. But there's only so much I can transfer to you, so you should read for yourself, and you will see there is nothing to worry about. The CEO actually replied in the comments, you can see he's very knowledgeable, and if you read that reddit link I gave you with the shipping, you can see it can take quite some time for the laptops to ship (months) because they want to make sure every single laptop matches their quality standards, and it can take a day or even more for a technician to make the laptop as it should be, and not skimp on anything. Seriously go read it, no point in me trying to tell u all I read when u can just do it urself, when u do u will see

@Floyd 57, thanks again; I will soon get around to reading that info. Btw, would you advise the Ryzen or Intel CPU for my needs?

You don't really have a choice, as the intel one comes with the rtx 3070, which adds another $400 to the cost. And since you said you are not gaming, I don't find much need of it. The cpus are about equal, it's really the gpu that shines, the rtx 3070 is quite faster than the 3060, especially when your display will be 165 hz 1440p, you are DEFINITELY going to have room for more performance when playing games, and the rtx 3070 will help with that

That said, based on a comment I posted above, it said the 3060 is enough to power 1440p @60fps at high or max settings with the newest games. But your monitor can support up to 165hz, so it would be nice, plus newer games are gonna be released, and even according to the comment, it said High or Max, not only Max. That said I haven't looked at the benchmarks, which is what u should be basing ur opinion on, not just blindly trusting a comment. But u said u are not a gamer so, I don't know really. It's nice but not necessary, although keep in mind you cannot upgrade cpu or gpu in laptop once you buy it. And if you do ever play games or anything else intensive, being able to reach 165 fps on 1440p is nice. The rtx 2070 was like 35-40% faster than the 2060. But it also all depends on the W of the gpu, and 3000 is newer generation. So u'd have to check the benchmarks, I have not and dont have time atm

Thanks @Floyd 57, you spotted it correctly, my goodie bag from AV-Comparatives will be shipped to me in a few weeks :thumb:
    On topic.
I could not find any more (professional) reviews from Eluktronics laptops.
So, there is no other information than those reddit topics.
It is great that they are improving their laptops and they should, but it can also be just marketing. There is no objective way to know if they are great or just mediocre.
I hope if @Cruise buys one that he will let us know and I wish him the best of luck with whatever laptop he purchases.

@Cruise, if you decide to take a chance on that Eluktronics Prometheus the basic Ryzen configuration is more than enough for running Photoshop 2021. The only concern I might have about that laptop (insofar as Photoshop use) might be the display because we have no idea as to its sRGB color accuracy, which is very important when editing photos.

Hey guys, I finally decided to put in my order for the Eluktronics Prometheus XVII (probably won't get it until sometime in April).

Thanks for all of the helpful feedback...

@Cruise, that laptop has terrific specs which will more than satisfy Photoshop's resource appetite! - what configuration did you select?

USA still the best. But barely.
My biggest concern besides all the regular considerations are the hinges. So many laptops have weak hinges that get hinky after 3-4 years or earlier. Another reason I like Thinkpads, their hinges are strong.

I feel that pain ...my Dell XPS laptop (far from being a cheapie!) suffered that fait, setting me back $90 to repair it. :(

I second that and the main laptop I use is a ThinkPad. But I've also found business laptops from HP and Dell to have strong hinges.

Apparently no need to get all unhinged about the hinge on this one:

"Prometheus XVII: Not Your Everyday Chonky Boy...

The centrally placed hinge is very well built, and unlike some laptops that have fallen apart because of this type of hinge, this laptop is very well-built when it comes to the hinge mechanism..."

@hawki - I can only hope! About the only concern that I had (expressed earlier) before deciding on this lappie was build-quality. So thanks for that info and link; it's comforting (somewhat)! ;)

Well even though you said you are not into gaming, that new laptop might just tempt you to indulge! :D
