I've noticed an interesting thing (maybe it's me). When I use Firefox in the Private Browsing Mode and COMPLETELY clean my History, Cache, Cookies, Flash Cookies, EVERYTHING, the web-sites are not logging me out. For example. If I'm using Firefox in the Private Browsing Mode and I clean all my cookies and there are NO Flash cookies anywhere around I can leave the Wilderssecurity forum and "travel all over the world" and clean several times my Firefox history, cache, cookies, flash cookies, typed URL's, etc... directly from Firefox or/and with "Click&Clean", but... If I get back to Wildersecurity forum, it will show that I'm still logged in. But... As soon as I remove my Private Browsing Mode settings from Firefox, the very first time I clean my history, cookies, etc... I am logged out from Wildersecurity forum, and ALL other forums, Yahoo emails, etc... Who could explain to me that possibly easy issue?
Try starting FF in "Safe Mode" to see if any extensions are causing your issue. Sometimes merely starting FF once in Safe Mode will cure your PW retention issue. Go to the Menu in upper right corner (the three bars); click on the "?" (Help Menu); select "Restart with addons disabled.."; try private browsing to see if your issue is present in Safe Mode; close FF and start normally (Go to Menu again; click on "?" and select "Restart with addons enabled."). If your problem does not occur in safe mode but persistes in normal mode, your gonna have to disable your extensions one by one to identify the posible culprit. You should also see if the problem occurs with hardware acceleration in The Advanced Options disabled. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your answer. My add-ons do not interfere with my issue when Firefox is NOT in the Private Browsing Mode. As soon as I clean my cache, history, cookies, etc..., I'm disconnected from any Forums, any email accounts, etc... There is something in that Firefox Private() Browsing Mode.
After switching to Private Browsing Mode, Firefox isn't displaying cookies with "Show Cookies". It's better to clean cookies/log out before you enter Private Browsing Mode.
As I understand correctly, in order to enter Private Browsing Mode (!), not to be confused with entering NEW PRIVATE WINDOW for Firefox, one must restart Firefox. If Firefox is NOT displaying cookies in Private Browsing Mode, shame on you Firefox. If Firefox is NOT deleting cookies in Private Browsing Mode, shame on you Firefox. If Click&Clean is not seeing and not deleting cookies, etc... in Private Browsing Mode, shame on you Click&Clean.
There is at least one reported instance on the Mozilla/Firefox Forums where merely starting FF in safe mode fixed the problem you are experiencing. Serendipity happens. Try it
When I'm in this Mode, after I clean my cookies, history, etc..., I am immediately logged out from any forum, any email accounts.
Maybe you can try this addon: Private Tab You have the option to open a private tab or a private window. After installing of this addon, open a new private tab and login into one of your websites. Now close this private tab, open a new private tab and go to the website again. Now you can see that you are not logged in anymore
This time, I decided to use "NEW PRIVATE WINDOW" from the menu in Firefox 52.0.2. I did not change any settings to "Private Browsing Mode". I've logged in to the Wilderssecurity Forum and went onto other web-site/s. I've cleaned my history, cookies, etc... several times, and there were no visible cookies, no visible Flash cookies, and I went back to Wilders Forum, and I was still LOGGED IN. To sum up. Don't you EVER try to use Firefox's NEW PRIVATE WINDOW or Firefox's Private Browsing Mode! Edit. This time, I've installed your "recommended "New Private Tab" and repeated the same steps from above, and guess what, after I came back to Wilders Security Forum, I WAS STILL LOGGED IN. To sum up 2. Don't you EVER try to use Firefox's NEW PRIVATE WINDOW or Firefox's Private Browsing Mode, or that New Private Tab add on!
zmechys, are you manually cleaning this? Why? If your Settings, next to the Clear history when Firefox closes line (and if that box is checked), are set like below (my settings), there is no need to manually delete anything. Seems like the Active Logins box is not checked.
Use the extension without the Private Browsing Mode and do not open a new Private Window. Try to open a Private Tab with the addon, login to a website, close the tab and visit the website again. I have tested it with the Wilders Forum and i was successfully logged out
Here are my cleaning settings with Firefox. Also, I got used to delete my "baggage" of cookies, history, typed URL's, etc... when I leave this or that forum, this or that email account. I don't want to close my Firefox (running with Sandboxie) and then restart it again; therefore, I just clean my "baggage/garbage" that is no longer needed for me without going through that, kind of, long "close & restart" process again. I've never(!) had any cleaning issues until I've decided to check that "highly-advertised" private Window/Tab. "When you browse in a Private Window, Firefox does not save: visited pages cookies searches temporary files." But somehow, only, while I'm using Firefox in Private Window/Private Browsing Mode, I'm greeted back and recognized with "open arms" at any Forums and accounts, even though I PURPOSELY cleaned all my TRACKS. Whatever it is, whatever that "smart" idea was for the Firefox creators - I DON'T LIKE IT. It does not suit my needs, my ideas... P.S. Dear Firefox, I don't know what you were thinking while "modernizing" Firefox, but I'm MORE PRIVATE without your PRIVATE WINDOW/MODE.
zmechys, have you tried privately running Firefox outside the sandbox to see if the same thing happens? You could test it only on Wilders, because there is nothing here that can hurt you. Perhaps this Sandboxie Tips Specific to Firefox page might help you find any other missing settings.
Yes, I've just tried it, and I got THE SAME RESULT while using ONLY one opened, Firefox Private Window Tab. I wonder what could cause ANY web-site to remember me if there is no: 1. cookie/s 2. flash cookie/s 3. history, etc... As Firefox says, "It does not save history, cookies, etc...", then how a/any Forum/s or email accounts could remember me? And again, when I do NOT use that, so called, "Private Window/Private Mode", as soon as I clean my history, cookies, etc... I'm UNRECOGNIZABLE to all my forums, accounts, etc... IMMEDIATELY. Let's say, if I'm logged in to my Yahoo email account while using Firefox in "PRIVATE(?) Mode", I can clean anything I want with everything I have, but... As soon as I go back to Yahoo, I am immediately greeted and recognized, but... If I do NOT use that "Private Window", the very next moment I click and clean my browser history, cookies, etc... I am logged out immediately. And that's how I want my Firefox to be.
Just as a comic relief, I decided to use that unsafe Chrome in "New Incognito Window" with Sandboxie. I've logged in to the Wilders Security Forum and then left it. Next. I've used Chrome's Clear Browsing Data tool to clean all my cookies, history, etc..., and I went back to Wilders Security Forum, and guess what... I was NOT RECOGNIZED. I logged into my email account and as soon as I cleaned my Chrome browsing data, I had become immediately unrecognized.
zmechys, just double checking, you made sure there was no history, cache, cookies, cleaning every item present when you tried it at Wilders outside the sandbox? If yes, I can only think of 2 possible issues: either the cookie.sqlite file is corrupted somehow, or an add-on is retaining your login info. I say this, because I have only 3 add-ons (AdBlock+, NoScript, Web Developer) in my Fx 52.0.2, and I can not duplicate your issue in Private Browsing.
Thank you for your answer. Here are my Firefox add-ons. I know that I will not use any PRIVATE Window/Mode from Firefox. And I truly believe that Firefox is NOT saving any cookies, history, etc... while in Private Mode - I could not see any cookies, history, etc..., but if I am remembered somehow by any web-sites, forums, accounts, etc... I don't know how; therefore, I just don't use that Private (with is NOT private in my case) Mode/Window.
I did the same experiment on a different Windows 10 computer. While using "Private Window", I've logged to the Wilders Security Forum. Next, I went to my home page :about and cleaned my Internet data: Next, I went to Yahoo and, again, cleaned all my browsing data: I've checked my "cookies" and I could not see any cookies: I've checked my Flash Cookies - Nothing. After I cleaned ALL traces of my Internet Browsing (or at least that's what I thought), I went back to Wilders Security Forum and was recognized and greeted back as zmechys. I've tried it on my two Windows 10 computers at DIFFERENT locations, different models, and on my Windows 10 Laptop. The result was the same. In Firefox's Private Mode, I was RECOGNIZED and welcomed back after cleaning ALL my Internet traces. I know it's just me.
If it's any reassurance, it is NOT just you. It happened to me several times, not using Private Mode. Clearing browsing history did not work. I don't recall if running CCleaner did, I know I went so far as to reboot the computer once out of annoyance and frustration. It's one of the reasons I switched to another browser. Seriously! Edit: Here, I found this older post that is somewhat relevant on Mozilla's help site. I gave up already but maybe you can take a look: https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Fire...ogged-into-websites-Before/m-p/712654#M591846
In my case, it happens ONLY when I'm in "Private Browsing Mode/Window". When I'm not in that "safe and private" mode, then as soon as I clean my Internet browsing data, I'm logged out immediately. Here is a snapshot before I cleaned my browsing history: And here is immediate result after I cleaned everything, even the time zone has changed:
I suspect that FF in private mode stores that data somewhere else and that location is not affected by Clear all history option. You should try and close FF to see if you are still logged in Wilders when you're back.
It seems that this is by desig? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=823941 This seems interesting: I don't have FF installed so I can't test it.
