I can't get too excited over boot times myself... once it's up and running, it stays that way for days, so who cares if it takes 30 seconds, 60 seconds, or 2 minutes to boot. Just my particular take on it....

I'm having a hard time understanding this comparison, when the machines in question are so vastly different, yet, Win XP was only 5 seconds slower on boot.

Their statement "Unfortunately, we lack the ability to bring Windows XP to the future from the time period from when it was released but we do have the ability to draw up some rough estimates provided the hardware configuration of a current machine." opens the door for more doubt because you can still test Win XP in today's environment, via NetBooks.

And that would have been a closer test comparison IMO.

are they trying to make windows 7 look bad by doing a very crap test?

it seems a very strange comparison to do the hardware that was avaliable at lanch for both.

if they installed both operating systems on the same machine it would provide a much better comparision.
surely you would want to know what the difference in speed overall using the same system running the same applications?
comparing a laptop to a desktop is a stupid idea as well....

lodore, given the comparison parameters, I think we can both agree that it was a crap test to begin with!

Well my thoughts is that it better be, especially windows explorer which is been so frustratingly mediocre for years including in XP. Explorer is been in dire need of a full re-write for ages IMO for perfomance sake.
