The iPhone 13 series is barely in stores, but that isn't stopping a growing chorus of leaks surrounding next year's model. As 9to5Mac notes, Bloomberg's historically accurate Mark Gurman claimed the iPhone 14 will represent a "complete redesign" — the first since the iPhone X arrived in 2017. The relatively modest iPhone 13 update was a hint that bigger things were coming, he said. Gurman was shy on details of what that new hardware would entail, but earlier rumors might offer a clue as to what to expect.

Most notably, frequently accurate analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently claimed Apple would begin dropping the display notch entirely in 2022, starting with an iPhone 14 Pro that would use a hole-punch front camera like many Android phones.

YouTuber Jon Prosser also claimed to have renders based on real-world photos of the new iPhone. The new model would supposedly resemble a supersized iPhone 4 with a band-like titanium outer ring, flush rear cameras and a thicker chassis.

We'd take the reports with some caution. No matter how accurate the reports might be, the next iPhone is roughly a year away. There's still a chance Apple could make substantial changes before it locks in the design for production. Whatever the end result, the common theme of the leaks suggests the iPhone 14 could be an important revamp.

As storage continues to get less expensive and iPhones get more hungry for gigabytes, it seems natural Apple might continue to try and expand the storage of the iPhone.

The iPhone 14 Pro and ‌iPhone 14 Pro‌ Max will both feature 6GB of RAM and a newer and faster type of memory, according to a report today from DigiTimes.

The report claims that the high-end models of the upcoming iPhone lineup will feature 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM, a faster and more efficient type of memory compared to older standards. Current iPhones feature LPDDR4X, and that's expected to continue to be the case for the standard iPhone 14 models.

Apple may increase the prices on its upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models, though it isn't clear how much more expensive they'll be, according to TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The analyst believes that the ASP for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro lineups would increase about 15% year-over-year to $1,000 to $1,050 compared to the iPhone 13 series.

Apple asked suppliers to build 90 million iPhone 13 units last year. This means Apple expects iPhone 14 demand to at least match that of the iPhone 13 last year. In years prior, Apple planned for around 75 million units for the initial production increase.
For the full year, Apple is still expecting to assemble around 220 million iPhones for the entire year.

Apple's A15 processor may be 'enhanced' for the iPhone 14

It's long been reported that Apple is going to have different processors in its regular and pro versions of the iPhone 14. It's believed that only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will get the newest A16 processor, and it's been presumed that this means the iPhone 14 will stay on last year's A15.

A new and extremely limited report claims that this may not be quite correct. According to the Wall Street Journal, although the iPhone 14 and what may be called the iPhone 14 Plus will indeed use the A15 processor, it won't be the same as the one in the iPhone 13 range.

"The base models will get an enhanced version of the current A15 processor," says the publication, in total. There is no more detail, nor any information about the provenance of the report.

Monday's report is far from the first one that's suggested that the iPhone 14 processor will be better than the same processor in the iPhone 13. Predictions of 6GB RAM for the entire lineup have been made for some time. It's not clear why the report implies that there's more to it than just that.

Sure, it’ll still sell you a new one; last year’s 128GB iPhone 13 Mini is currently available for $599, but the new iPhone 14 lineup doesn’t include any models with the smaller 5.4-inch screen that some people have come to love.

I may be disappointed, but I’m not surprised. Rumors of the Mini’s death have been swirling almost since it debuted in 2020. In early 2021, reports started to surface that Apple had vastly overestimated demand for the phone and had to slash production of it and that it only accounted for single-digit percentages of all iPhone sales.
