It came pre-installed with my new Sony laptop.
    It does something.

yeah that's what all manucfacturers do, preinstall crapware/snake oil and you believing it is even worse.

this will do nothing than corrupt your windows installation

that is exactly why I buy a new laptop, then format it. I don't want a single piece of bloatware or left over registry entries

I had this myself on an earlier setup.:thumbd:

    It is a nightmare!

    Uninstall it ASAP.

Then cleanup your PC register as well. (CCleaner?)

Run as many scanners as you have on demand.

Really, it's not so bad. I'm a registered user of the regular System Mechanic and in reality it is highly unlikely that it will cause any harm to your computer. The registry cleaner can give some false positives on occasion, but other than that it is safe to use.

I'm not a huge fan of the software due to the highly exaggerated and misleading claims used to sell it. I only bought it because I received an email offer of purchasing the latest version really cheaply. I wanted to try the new version - but when I downloaded it I got the previous version, so I purchased it to try out the latest version.

However if you don't like it, just remove it via Add/Remove programs and it will be gone. There is no need to clean the registry after uninstalling it - any left of registry entries won't matter at all.
