Intermittent shutdown problem about 1/10 times. ThinkPad T540p (2014) W11P. It will shutdown, screen goes black but green light on power button stays lit. Have to press power button till light shuts off.
Intermittent problems are the worst to troubleshoot when you cannot duplicate the problem on demand. This could be heat related. Open every access bay and cover and blast out as much heat trapping dust as possible. Make sure your fans are spinning. Consider blowing a desk fan from the side and across the laptop. If you feel comfortable opening the case to expose the innards, you will have much better access for a much more thorough cleaning. But no shame if you don't want to dig into it that much. There's no shame taking it to a professional. Try plugging in an external monitor and switching the output to it. This will (hopefully) tell you if the computer is the problem or the display. If the external monitor shows your desktop, stick your nose up to the display while shining a flashlight in there. Then carefully look for the Windows desktop. If you can see a dim image, the backlighting of the laptop's display has died. If more than one stick of RAM, try one at a time. Is that the original battery? It may be time to replace it. The fact the light stays on suggests the power supply is still outputting something. But trying a compatible different supply might be a good idea - if you have access to one. You MUST ensure it is the same voltage and connector configuration (polarity) as the original. The amperage (wattage) can be higher, but not lower.
