I am considering building my own UTM (Unified Thread Management) PC.

I saw a Retail Box Intel PCI/PCI-X Dual GB NIC Card for about $40 and it looked like just what I wanted until I researched it.

    Some Advantages:

    1. Only uses one (1) PCI/PCI-X Slot for two (2) NIC's.
    2. High compatibility, since it is Intel.
    3. Can be converted between normal and low-profile.

    Some Disadvantages:

    1. If you are considering using it in a PCI slot, there is usually something (heat sink, capacitor, etc.) past the end of PCI slot which blocks the installation in the PCI slot.

What have been your experiences with PCI/PCI-X cards?

I guess that I will need to just buy two (2) Intel PCI NIC cards.

    Thanks in Advance.

    PCI is pretty old

I've been very happy with Intel server PCIe NICs, 2x and 4x.
