I think this will keep the people at "Homeland Security" very busy. SSN's leaked from the D.C. area are especially troublesome it would seem.

I imagine throwing money on this will not solve the problems it will create.

Why weren't these files encrypted in the first place?

 

Probably due to either a lack of security planning, lack of technical expertise regarding encryption, or most likely just plain laziness.

 

This is another example of why, no matter how secure we try to make our personal pc's, we cannot fully protect our selfs from our personal info being disclosed resulting in the possibility of identity theft.
