I want to use Adobe Flash 11 on my Asus laptop which is running ESET Security 4. When I try to do this I find that it is blocked - I suspect by my ESET anti-virus program which I have disabled temporarily but without success. Certainly ESET blocks Firefox - which (I have been told) would enable me to download Adobe.

    Any advice, please?

Hey Voltaire ( and welcome to Wilders)

Have you looked at your logs? is there some information about why Eset is supposedly blocking Adobe Flash player. Do you receive a pop up notification regarding the block?

    Regards Janus :)

    Hi Voltaire,

My experience is that this is a Firefox issue:

    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/766342
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/942047

    I usually do the following:

    In a new tab:

Type "about:config" in the location bar
    "Promise to be careful"
    Filter for "browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone"
Double-click to change from true to false

    Then in another new tab:

    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

    Windows Plugin-based browsers
    Download EXE Installer

Once download complete, go back to the "about:config" tab
    Filter for "browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone"
Double-click to change from false back to true
    Close the "about:config" tab

Locate the downloaded EXE installer file and Scan with ESET

The same thing happens when I try to download Java updates

    HTH :)

I hope that works but WHY would you two have to do that and the rest of us do Not?

For fun, you could try the (2) MSI Installers for IE AND Plugin-Based Browsers (FX) per the SWAG theory similar to EXE Attachments Not being liked by some Email Sites ......... Although EXE gives me No Trouble I JUST used the MSI's to update from ----602..168 to ----602.171 -----
