There are some contexts where it would seem nice if the thread starter could update their first post for an indefinite period of time. Namely, when someone would like to share something forum-topical (list of links on a subject, some code, whatever) and keep that something updated.

I've seen this type of thing being done in various forums, and found it useful. However, I haven't given the pattern and implementation pros/cons much thought.

Is this something that is supported by XenForo or an addon to said?
Is this something that has been considered for this forum in the past?

I think there could be a "promotes publishing-by-one vs discussion-by-many" argument against it. I'd understand a: "maintain it elsewhere and, if topical, just post a link here" approach. On the other hand, maybe it is something that others... including LWM et al... would like and find practical.

This capability is available here on XenForo. It's via an Add-On that I've modified.

Anyone who has a thread where extended post editing seems appropriate, (such as maintaining some kind of changing or evolving content over time), can contact me about getting that ability.

If nothing else, it would allow the OP to go back and finally add "(Solved)" to the topic title, if it's taken forever to reach that point.

They could always ask a mod for that, much like contacting LowWaterMark for this ability.

Thank you for bringing this up TWB. It's something Ive wondered about. LowWaterMark, just another thought along these lines, would it be possible (as long as a thread needed it) to make the original post sit at the top of each page? (sort of like a sticky) Ive seen this on another board and it's very useful when a thread gets long, and that thread has lots of information within it that could be linked to.

As a newbie to wilders I'm miffed. How do I request access to my original post so that I can change it as need be? I've got a thread named "Firefox Quiet" that contains a combined list of settings that are supposed to keep Firefox from phoning home. Started out rather crappy, but I've spent the time to re-create that list in a much better format. I'd suspect many would like a simple 'drop-in' replacement. Of course, no guarantee the setting won't break things.

So how do I make this happen?

@Slink489, you might like to PM the Mods. That's what I did.

Slink489, no need to be annoyed. Your answer resides in Post #2 of this thread, and that decision rests with LowWaterMark, our Admin.

Not annoyance. Miffed as in confused cuz I couldn't figure out how to PM anyone. But that doesn't matter since I've changed my mind. I'll just post what I need to in the thread and let it go at that.
