    I don't understand WHY Apple doesn't handle their cloud like my password manager. It would be trivial to construct a thoroughly designed cloud system where the USER device does the encryption, then the encrypted package is sent up for safe keeping and/or dispersal among devices. With that method the Gov can beat Apple up all they want. In the end IF Apple complies and sends the data package they would have NOTHING meaningful.

    This suggestion is similar to Protonmail, Tutanota, and many other truly security aware providers. Its a well proven technology so no need to reinvent the wheel.

    Such a design would actually make it easier for Apple because then they could/would respond to warrants knowing they are not truly betraying their customers.
