Image Of An Old Drive To New Laptop?

I am in the process of evaluating True Image having been recommended to this particular piece of Software by a colleague: as such I am very much a newbie.

Scenario: I will shortly be taking delivery of a new laptop system. My need is to transfer the complete contents of my old laptops 12gig hard drive to the new 40gig drive upon the new lap top machine: both machines are using XP Pro as an operating system.

I am not upon a network. Is True Image suited to undertake such a transfer: if so detail of the procedure would be appreciated. Or, does Acronis have other software better suited to undertake this task?

Failing which Laplink via a USB file transfer cable would seem to be the best option.

By all means transfer the data but not the OS.
