    Hi

I'm having problems uninstalling a program that added a shell extension to mp3 files.

i used it for ages and really like it

it ads a properties page to mp3s and changes their icons to show the bit rate

pretty cool but its no longer working on new mp3 and i thing it may be causing some crashing

    its called "MP3ext V3.4b23"

    http://www.mutschler.de/mp3ext/

problem is i uninstalled it with add remove programs but the shell extension (right click menu) is still there, and so are the changed icons (they show the mp3 bit rate.)

I tried a demo of revo uninstaller but that didn't appear to uninstall it?

what can i try to uninstall this program

i remember a year or so back i think i uninstalled it and it removed any icons for mp3 files. so i put it back on. but now i think i want it gone

I tried contacting the author, but got no reply :(

I've got myself in a pickle with this what actions should i take to try and remove the program.

    Cheers

You could install it again, then see if there is one or more dlls registered, which you could unregister before you uninstall again.

You could also use a program like InstallRite, to capture everything that happens on an install, then use that info to manually remove what is left.

after it uninstalled it then removed the left over files

but the mp3 icons are still there and the right click menu is still there on the mp3? same as before, how is this possible if i have uninstalled?

    I'm rebooting...

any ideas why its still there?

    Cheers

    QUICK UPDATE:

After reboot the program is still there

I started going through the list from the picture you sent

the program files entries were not there
then i started removing registry entries

when i removed hkeyclasses root .mp3a the bitrate icons have turned blank but dont display any kind of logo

Its all getting a bit mental to remove all these entries?

    What are my options here

    1 just forget about it
2 is there a straightforward way of uninstalling the program
3 is there certain things that i could remove or change in the registry?

4 should i attempt to contact the author again

its a bit of a pain

i think the mp3 info program has been causing a few random crashes, so i 'd like to remove it, plus it doesn't recognise modern mp3 tags like from beatport

    Any suggestions/help welcome

    would instal rite help me?

    also i removed "MP3ext.dll" from sytem 32

and string searched "MP3ext.dll" in the registry and deleted

-and the shell tag menu has gone-

am i likely to make my system unstable mucking about like this

is there any other things i could change or remove

and how do i get my icons to be a media player rather than just blank

quick update i got my icons back

    I just reinstalled WMP

before i just got standard 'unrecognised file' even though it was associated with WMP.

a small victory but i thought i'd post an update
