Blackcat, I have to respectfully disagree. In US dollars

    Kaspersky is $59.00
    Eset is $59.00
    Avast is $40.00
    Avira is $47.00
    Norton is $59.00

I mean for 3 computers and the support Ziggy stated, I think it is a pretty good deal, that is why I bought it yesterday.

I know most of these other products can be found with deep discounts at other locations, so it might be nice to see Ikarus offer periodic specials.

Or maybe a 50 percent off coupon for Wilders Members for a month. :argh: :argh:

I think that given the fact that the world in 2012 is going through its worst financial crisis since 1929, all AV companies should have a different approach to how much a user is prepared to pay for a yearly subscription. We are talking about the most unproductive applications which at best can advise you about an imminent threat and in the worst scenario they will miss one and tell you no AV can guarantee a 100% security.

The bottom line? From my point of view 10/15 dollars is more than enough for what we get, alternatively there are many good free versions.

I'm not criticizing Ikarus itself, I think most AVs are grossly overpriced.

I can see your point of view but who here pays retail price for an AV? I haven't for years. So I still think that the price is expensive for a standalone AV which relies mainly on signatures and heuristics only. In addition most of us will only use it as part of a layered defense and not the primary protector, due to its lack of extra security features ( e.g. a behaviour blocker/HIPS) .

Now if there is a substantial discount on offer I may reconsider ;)

I agree with both of you and you have valid points. The whole security market is going crazy and who knows where this will end up with all the free products out there.

Of course,at some point, free also carries a price.

Ikarus may also just be happy with where they are at. They are well repscted in that part of the world, have a sizeable following.

But from what I am learning about them, they are some very good folks who honestly care about their customers and their products. Of course most vendors do, but their specialty is the support after the fact.

    you are completely right.
All av vendors are aware of the crisis and all have a problem with the sale.
it's also MSE free for 10 computers(major market for all av vendors)
moreover, and not a bad program!one might say that a great program for price :D

I may be wrong, but I think that Ikarus make most of their money from the Enterprise/Business market rather the Home version. Hence no need to look closely at the Home prices.

May have to check this out. Mainly because I never have. Also because of the name. Plus, one of my favorite Iron Maiden songs is Flight of Icarus.

    Close right? :D

But agree, price needs to be lower. Will try to check out a trial soon.

better one fp more than a virus insufficient ;-) -joking
our analysis and development is working hard to handle but it is way less than some tests show
In work environments of our customers there are no problems with fps.

our Engine gets updated with normal virus database updates.
we do not follow that kind of trend to have a new version every year that doesn´t get any new update.
we do it that way to develop and update.
newest updates wil be promotet in our newsletter - register http://www.ikarus.at/en/ngo-gov/info-center/newsletter/
fyi - no spamming newsletter only monthly.

No disagreement on your POV, Osaban but afaik, AV vendors aim at the mass (consumer) market. Those folks, by and large, still don't know better than to have an AV/Suite installed, a good one preferably.
Here at WSF, all we can hope for is special discounts in order to try and buy those apps we consider top-notch and then spread the word.
    And yes, ziggy_IKARUSvienna, that's a very subtle hint... ;)
