If you would choose just _ONE_ security application, which would it be? And why?

Say you're on Win 8 x64 and you cannot use Windows Defender in conjunction with anything else. It has to be WD or the other. What security application would it be? Remember guys, only ONE security solution!

I'd myself pick AppGuard. Simply because it'd protect me against vulnerabilities and malware with zero impact and no need for updates.

    Your turn.

Sandboxie. Light on resources, very configurable, able to restrict just about anything. protects browsers, internet facing apps, USB/portable drives.

AppGuard & ERP. That may look like 2 but it's only 1.0 (binary).

    Noscript or Keepass

But if I was forced to only use one tool in my arsenal, I'd rather disconnect all my rigs from the internet. Or use a live cd with nothing of value ever entering or leaving the computer.

VirtualBox and run a Linux distro, on a more serious note i'd choose Sandboxie too

Emsisoft Internet Security for x64, of course x86 would be DefenseWall.

How can a scanner detect unknown malware? If it is detected than at least the scanner know it ;)
No scanner is for unknown malware thats exactly the point where they all fall.

Exactly knowing the threat is not just the only way, you can also suspect it is so. Behavioral analysis, file entropy, heuristics, etc can enable the latter. Just like a new thief that's not in crime databases can attract attention to himself by behaving suspiciously or committing an act that's considered malicious in presence of a cop.

Using system built-in defences would allow me to use ESET only.

Not being very knowledgeable I would just stay with KIS. Other good suites would be as good.

Sandboxie, because it protects against so much so easily.
