Here are some older results from their site. Any errors are due to my poor typing skills.

    "Q1" 2009
    IE8 (RC1): 69%
    Fx 3.07: 30%
    Chrome 1.0.154: 16%
    Opera 9.64: 5%
    IE 7: 4%

    July 2009
    IE 8: 81%
    Fx 3: 27%
    Chrome 2: 7%
    Opera 10: 1%

    July 2009
    IE 8: 83%
    Fx 3: 80%
    Opera 10: 54%
    Chrome 2: 26%

    Jan 2010
    IE 8: 85%
    Firefox 3.5: 29%
    Chrome 4: 17%
    Opera 10: <1%

    Sept 2010
    IE 9: 99%
    IE 8: 90%
    Fx 3.6: 19%
    Chrome 6: 3%
    Opera: 0%

    May 2011 (Europe only)
    IE 9: 92%
    IE 8: 90%
    Chrome: 13%
    Fx 4: 13%
    Opera: 5%

Given that IE, from IE8 on, has shown vastly superior results, the influence on IE's market share doesn't seem to have benefited.

Could this disparity be due to a credibility issue of its proponents or of the company itself?

Hope its market share will decrease, its not about the company its all about its product. When IE9 came out it was at least half a year behind the competition and MS as usual, doesn't develop it. Its simply not a capable browser. You can check it at html5test.com or at similar web sites. Malware detection? Should we even care? Browsers aren't anti-malware applications. Their major features should be: successfully rendering sites that made of the newest web standards and technologies. IE9 supports HTML5 and CSS3 to some extent but it's not enough... Web is a constantly changing, improving place, web browsers should constantly changing too, for example: new Chrome versions come out usually on weekly bases, new IE versions only .... in a few years time. Do you choose a web browser with good anti-malware capabilities but sacrificing user experience?
Using an outdated web browser like IE9 is severely setting back the evolution of the web hence badly effecting user experience. You choose: living in the past or in the future .....

Enjoy one or more browsers you prefer. All can be made safe as each other as long as you are aware of it strengths and weaknesses. Thank you all.
