IE Standard buttons toolbar

Avast decided it did not like remnants of Norton on my system so I removed Norton AV ... but with it went my Standard buttons Toolbar in Internet Explorer. By that I mean it is available but is hidden & it is not convenient to use it that way. For the love of me I cannot figure out how to get it back as visible for convenience. I tried to use Customize Toolbar, nada did not work. Standard buttons; address bar, Lock Toolbar and Status Bar, are all check marked. ... so any suggestions how I can get this tootlbar back on screen?? Oh, I have thoroughly scanned my computer and it is clean. Am using WinXP Home
