ID thief sentenced to more than 16 years in prison

    My first thought was that the sentence is excessive for a white collar crime, especially considering that it will cost 1/2 million to house the guy for 16 years, and he's accused of stealing a million.

    But considering the number of people that he defrauded, the sentence seems more appropriate.

    The sentence is severe, but not because of the number of people he got to. It's because he hit the pockets of the real thieves, the credit card companies.
