Whoa. One of the most important companies for Gnu/Linux ecosystem is getting acquired by IBM. On the one hand open-source is being acquired by a few giant corporations. On the other hand maybe this is what they need to compete with Microsoft, Google and Amazon in the cloud area.

I'm having an optimistic moment about this. If done right this could carve out a nice slice of the consumer market. All that goes with that I see at least 3 musts. One, these are big, one seamless integration or a reasonable licensing agreement for MS Office in all it's capabilities. Two, equal or greater performance of all popular games than in Windows. And three substantial distribution of desktops & laptops with Redhat preinstalled. I believe IBM is capable of this.
