i just downloaded this freeware graphics/screencapture program and from my limited knowledge of the two XnView is much better. download it, take a screenshot of your desktop and see how much better the enhancments you can make with XnView are. maybe irfanview can do more, but for pure picture enhancments my bets with XnView. i downloaded from the link below, its the one after winamp
    http://www.appsoftheweb.com/audiovideo.htm

this is the home page (below), theres afew links there so if you're not sure which to download, download from the link at appsoftheweb
    http://www.xnview.com/

    Hi Ice...:)

Looks pretty darn impressive. :D Nice find. ;)

Couple questions [mainly for anyone else here wanting to know, as I probably may not get it, I have more than enough apps to cover my graphics needs]

    #1 ~ Installation:
Number one concern with any graphics proggies IMO, is File Association. The last thing you would want is a program taking over certain files as in jpg, bmp, etc. Was there an option during install to check/deny File Association?

    #2 ~ Using:
a] How many options for different screen captures does it have?
[I read the 'Features' listed, but it only states Screen Captures + all the other varying options, I am particularly interested in what sort of Screen Capture Options there are.]
Listed I have here with mine are:
    Full Screen
    Virtual Desktop
    Window or Control
    Button/s
    Active Window
    Active Window without Frame
    Region
    Freehand
    Pan Last Region
    Multi-Region/Frame/Window Capture
    Repeat Last Capture
    Extended Active Window
and the very nice feature of Scrolling Window [scrolls a very long page to the end, capturing the lot in one go, mind you the file size can be big, best one I did was 4 pages long, jpeg hi res format at around 1.8Mb file, lol]

b] Hot Key Configuration? I don't have to even open my program, just hit for example: Ctrl Shift S to do full screen, Ctrl Shift A for Active Window, etc.

c] Saving. Can you set it up to AutoSave after doing the capture?
By that, you hit 'hot keys', it snaps and auto names files incrementally to a certain destination, certain file type [like jpg/gif, whatever you want] and at a certain resolution, without even seeing the progam's GUI, unless you want to maybe crop/edit a pic?
I have my GIFs set up to naming from 000 to 500.. when it runs out, it goes back to 000. Jpegs set up to Snap01 to whatever. Unless I edit them.

d] How many 'undo's' can there be optioned when editing. You may wish to revert back to the beginning and start again as in Ctrl Z "is your friend" :)

    That's about it mate :D

Thanks for any info. I may give it a whirl after all :)

    Cheers, TAS

Here is sample of a Multi-Region Capture, I can capture separate items in one go without having background as in general snap. Very good for menu fly-outs and multiple portions of a program's GUI.

Tassie, are you asking me those questions, it was only during the second reading that i had a chill run through my body when i thought, is he talking to me? tonight ive installed about 10 programs. however, during installation..., no i just cant answer your questions with any certainty. cant you install it for an hour or so then do a system restore? you know i dont know enough about this stuff, i'd still bet it was better then irfanview though :D

LOL...no probs mate... I know the feeling. :D

I might do it tonight when I get home from work. Don't feel like playing just yet, off to work in about 1 hour myself.

You have a play in meantime, post couple screenies [please :)] and shall get your opinion when I come home.

    Cheers, TAS

Sorry, should have been clearer... I've been to the site, read the Features, etc. and saw the screenies of the program itself.

I meant, screenies from you.. to see what it's like with screen snapshots of your own. :D

    Cheers, TAS

Iceni, you can probably find answers to Tassie's inqueries through the interface and help files. There must be some documentation.

Your "masterpiece" is interesting, I like it!

Just a thought Iceni, are there any command line options? I saw a help command for version 1.25 call and type : (xnview -help) for available options.
If it's wrong, exit, and I guess not.

I have read thumbs up at a few site's, though the help files are next to useless.
Certainly worth a try considering the vast assortment of files that can be opened...to quote.

WOW! You have been busy :):):):) THANKS!!!

Now there ya go Ice. You PASSED the test!!!! LOL :D:D

I liked the screenie "art" of the sepia/bubble distortion of the trees there matey. ;)

Program looks good Ice, congrats on a nice find. :D

I see that it's much more than just a screencapture proggy, bit like any other Image Editors with the advantage of screen capture.
That's great, especially since it's free, not many like that now. :doubt:

I am sure many will like it....:):):)

Just one thing, if you have a jpeg/bmp/gif say in a folder/anywhere, and you double click it now, does it open up normally like it did before the new program, and not inside the new program itself? In other words, it did not File Associate itself with image extensions!!!!!!

Once again, thanks Ice, :) with all the dialogue we've had in here now, at least others can see it before they try it.
[Ice ~ Latin word meaning Crash Test Dummy :D:D:D:D ~ JOKING]

OT: How's the C:/ 'splitting' coming along mate. Neighbours complained about the 'UK Chainsaw Massacre' going on at your house.

@ GF: So did I mate, so did I, re chill through body... good laugh!!!
I've been accused of many things, but never 'having a chill run through anyone's body' before.. ROFL ... :D

    Cheers, TAS
