Lately I have had a boot problem. It will start to boot then re-boot. A box will pop up saying that Windows had a problem and had to shut down. It says a device or device driver was the problem. How can I determine what I am dealing with. I am on a custom built computer with XP Home Edition.
I'm sorry. I didn't explain myself well enough. It boots fine on the second try and runs fine. And it only does this one time re-boot about every 5th boot.
Any pointers in eventvwr.msc? Have you enabled boot logging in Advanced Boot Menu (or added /bootlog switch to boot.ini) and then had a look at ntbootlog.txt in C:\Windows? If you're getting an indication of there being a driver / device error, I'd still try a partial roll back using SR though (if you can't reinstate a good, full fallback image), as it might just do the trick... philby
