Through the years I have considered Avast as my go-to reliable AV. It has always run well and I have never had a virus.
For whatever reasons, which I don't remember, I do change AVs. I think it is mostly from boredom and wanting something to fool with. I have used Kaspersky, Avira, Norton, Bit Defender, and Avast.

For 2 years or so I have been using Norton IS with satisfactory results, but decided I wanted to test Avira again, and later KIS 2013.

So I have had Avast on my laptop for a couple of weeks with no issues. I first put Avast Free on, but wanted to try the IS. I am using it now.

I am persuaded that, for me, Avast Free together with MBAM Pro running alongside, plus the W7 firewall will give about as much security as anything, and all I need. I still like Avast.

:thumb: I like avast too. It's too bad that the web scanner sucks the life out of my wifi connection. I still like it though.

I agree. Avast! has been running very well for me since they upgraded to version 7. I think their detection is also improving. I was using the free version along with MBAM Pro and was extremely happy with that protection level. I decided to buy a two year, 3pc license for AIS because I wanted the extra protection for my laptop and I like using the safe zone browser for my online banking with my desktop. I also did it as a way to thank Avast! for the years of free security they gave me.

Of course, I am having some trouble with the very latest versions. I have my laptop all straightened out but am having some crashes on my desktop. I think we are getting them worked out however.

I tried out several other suites over the past few weeks and my computer feels the snappiest running Avast!. It think it gives me a combination of low system impact and good protection that I am comfortable with and confident in. It also runs very well with MBAM Pro. So, I am going to stick with it even as I get some of the kinks worked out with the sandbox.

edit - I see no impact on browsing from the web scanner. My impression is that my pages load faster and my downloads are faster with AIS than with the other programs I tried. I don't think I will ever understand how things can work so differently on different computers. The whole concept of having a mix of software and hardware that interacts in a different way is way too complicated for my brain to comprehend. Frankly, I am usually surprised that any of this stuff works at all. :)

I liked Avast better years ago when it was a smaller program but I still would recommend it as free alternative.I actually installed it on my wifes friend computer after I spent over 5 hour restoring it from being invested with Malware, addware, toolbars etc. That was months ago and have not heard any single complaint yet,So I guess its doing its job.She had McAfee on expired over a month and no security to speak of running IE9 without Smart screen off and all windows services where running. It was one big open portal for malware. On top of that they where doing online banking.

Yeah I'm not really sure but some pages drag when I try and open them. Maybe it's an issue with Comodo firewall or K9 web. I'm unsure but I do know there are plenty of free AV's. Kingsoft AV seems to be working well and its very light. PCAV pro is also very good and light as well. I really don't need one but I feel a little safer running one.

I recently picked up the deal on Avast Pro from Newegg. I also like to support the makers.
I have found that I like the Internet Security versions and if I find a good deal on the Avast IS I may pick it up. So far I like the trial.

Me too, though I have been running VIPRE for the last 1½ years.
Prior to that I ran avast! for probably 3-4 years.
avast! will always be a favorite of mine, and it's not hard to imagine myself returning to it again one day. :thumb:

I have a few favorite avs and one of them Avast. I have used Avast for a while and it worked perfectly.

I heard at some small company they installed Avast free as the only security setup on their comps. I don't know how they solved the non-commercial use issue, but their comps worked without any malware problems.

What I mean is that with those 3 apps conflicts should be expected.

Been using Avast since 2004 off and on. Only time I don't use it is when I'm testing out other AVs. Can't say that Avast has ever troubled me.

Since version 5 or 6, I found that Avast's RP always shuts down unexpectedly due to other AV bad uninstallation. I hardly try and keep it more than 2 weeks! Even with a paid licence. They upgrade so often they doin't even check all modules are working in their version, like "autosandbox feature" or "web shield interacting with Win 7 FW and other 3 rd party firewall". I was a fan before but I am not happy now.:(

    Another :thumb: for avast!

I've used it 2 years now and I just can't dislike it. It has saved me from malware a couple of times (I consider myself as safe surfer, but those websites have been legitimate so...).
Because avast! is free and effective, I install it in all my relatives' PCs (some have IS) and even in Android OS mobile phones. And that's the reason why I have it translated into Estonian as well - the program rocks and other Estonians can better understand it too :)

+ I plan a trip to avast HQ this September to meet them in person :) We'll see how it goes, I still have to put plan together. Would be awesome!

The only thing I do not like that much is year-by-year registration. Many of my relatives have called me that AV has expired, what should I do now? It's hard to explain how to re-activate it because it's in English (online content is loaded and you need to find the "free" link there). So I think it's made a bit complicated to re-register more easier. I think I am gonna send them email with the code next time.

Did Comodo fix the problem where every time Avast! would update, Comodo would make a bunch of new registry keys?

I liked AIS so much I popped for the $29 special they offered awhile back! It's slicker than snot on a doorknob! Of course, I use Linux Mint mostly, but it's good security in Windows.
