I installed Clementine and it shuts down immediately when I open it.

Clementine only stays open when I add it to the Desktop and "Open as Administrator".

Anyone have any ideas what the problem is?

    Thank You!

I've had that happen with Amarok and Rythmbox when the players were looking for music files or folders on an unmounted drive. Not sure if this is the cause of your issue, though.

Thanks, I will look into that.

I don't know if this is a problem- but Amarok is already installed on the system.

Do I run any risks by using the "Open as Administrator" to start Clementine?

-Did it happen right after install, or did you get to use it, and then it started this behaviour?
-Did you try to temporarily move the configuration files elsewhere, to see if Clementine recreates them and run?
-Also, try running it from the terminal to see any errors.

    - It did not shut down when I first installed and started it, but only after the 2nd or 3rd time that I started it. I have tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling it but I think there are some files that are not "uninstalling".

    - I don't know where to look for the configuration files.

    - It tries to run "updating library" on startup and subsequently shuts down after finishing "updating library" however it does not do this when I "Open as administrator".

    - I use to know but have forgotten these kinds of things: What do I type in the terminal to run Clementine?

So it may be something related to how you configured it. Not that it was your fault, but it may be related to some bug.

The configuration files are in your home directory, at ~/.config/Clementine . Try to move them to ~/Clementine-backup or something just in case you want to check them out later, or even put them back for some reason. It should recreate the folder when you run it again.

To run it in from the terminal, just type clementine . If you want to try this, do it before moving the folder to see if any errors pop.

The files it is complaining about, check the tags of those files and ensure they are using proper unicode encoding. If you don't know how to check tags, you can use Kid3.

    Hi Mrk-
The music files have non-root, read & write permissions.

Also Amarok has been installed for a long time without any problems.

Sorry for the late reply. Have you found what went wrong, or start with a new config?
