I am trying to upgrade my HP laptop hard drive from 100Gb to 320 Gb by connecting the new hard drive as USB external hard drive and then running TI 2009 cloning feature. The laptop has Vista installed on it. Using TI 2009, I am able to get the cloning started. However after approx 56% of conversion the system hangs up and I get a blank screen. The only option is to hard shutdown of the laptop. I have tried this over 4 times with no success. I am really getting frustrated and need help.

Should I install the new hard drive in teh laptop and then cnnect to the old drive via external drive?

Yes, that's called a reverse clone ... new drive in laptop and source drive in usb enclosure.

Also you'll have to make the bootable True Image Rescue cd, boot with it and use the Clone feature from its menu.
