doh? set your options - not default browser. anyhow its similar like chromium. but edge got worst notes about spying you, get Chromium or chromium ungoogled and wlla will be fine, edge chromium bases ist totally crap and spys you.
1) Install a different browser and set it as your default. 2) Optional: Uninstall Microsoft Edge using this tool:~Link removed~ 3) Reboot, no more Edge PS: Don't forget to unblock the ZIP file after you download it. Do that before you extract it otherwise all the files within will have a BLOCKED status. Windows blocks all files downloaded from the internet by default unless you change that via Group Policy Editor or a reg tweak.
My advice is to stay away from unknown downloads. Don't open yourself to who knows what by trying to modify your operating system. This is especially important if you have valuable files and information on your computer. And who doesn't?
How about a script to stop windows update and let me update my own....this was my issue changes profiles
If you didn't update Edge to new Chromium version yet, you can use this registry key to disable this update: So far I didn't have a situation when Edge would become default browser on it's own.
My new system was built last month using a Windows 10 Pro 1909 OEI DVD and it came with Edge out of the box, not as a result of a Windows Update. So, no choice in the matter. It didn't take long to note these talked in and out constantly while I was setting my things up, so I blocked 'em in the firewall: c:\program files (x86)\microsoft\edge\application\msedge.exe c:\program files (x86)\microsoft\edgeupdate\microsoftedgeupdate.exe c:\windows\systemapps\microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\microsoftedge.exe c:\windows\system32\microsoftedgecp.exe App updates is disabled in Store because I read that disables Edge auto updates and all the others, I suppose, which I couldn't care less about.. FWIW, "Continue running background apps when Edge is closed" is disabled in Edge Settings. I have another browser as default and even though I never open Edge or it ever gets opened, these still show up: They're dusted off, among others, now and then with a very lightly configured CCleaner. Nonetheless, I think I've done all I want to do for Edge. It's pretty much smacked on this box.
As I remember I also got files from Edge cleaned by CCleaner when I set up my computer a month ago, but lately don't get them any more. I guess that I changed some settings ( or ShutUp10 did ) that stopped it from running.
A few months ago, I had the same "PROBLEM", and decided to ELIMINATE IT. I've found on the Internet how to TOTALLY REMOVE Edge. And it REMOVED Edge, but... Immediately after that "happy moment" of "Edge-Free", I could not update my Windows 10 ANYMORE. It did not matter how much I've tried, much time I've spent - NOTHING HELPED; therefore, After "REFRESHING" my Windows 10 and reinstalling all those consequential numerous updates, I've decided Not to mess with Edge on Window 10! Edge - as integral part of Windows 10.
That's right, no way back with the 2004 update, and no more reghack. First it was IE, then Edge legacy, and now (new) Edge. But i am not sure if there exist a GPO for pro and enterprise to avoid edge, from my understanding there should exist otherwise admins will go wild with the rollout.
