    sorry for delay korben

i put a very basic tutorial how to set up router with ubuntu

step 1 start your router, modem and ubuntu(linux distro you have)

and right click on your wireless icon and see your connection there now click on it

after click it ask for keyring (keyring is key code to active your network on ubuntu of that particular setup. please note its not your wep/wpa.....etc key of your router and also when you start your computer it ask for your keyring to connect.

now its ask for your wep /wpa ......etc key on which your router is set put that as well and if it dont work dont worry :p

step 2. now right click and click edit your connection

step 3 now here in 1st tab (wireless) please check your ssid

if there is bssid you can also write that as well change you mac here if needed

also the most important step if you get trouble in connecting then check your mac address set in your router if its different from what it set in router and there is access list enable it wont let your router connect

what is access list? also called access control lists or ACLs in simple its something which make your router connect to your pc while reading mac address

not ip so if your ip addresses are correct this might be cause of problem as for korben example where is say i see a different mac in windows and ubuntu

which is wrong what we having here is in windows his original ip is spoofed( fake mac address) which is not real mac address and it added to windows mac and added to access control lists of his router now when he try to connect with ubuntu it drop because of mac address which is real(original card mac)

    so solution is

either login to router and change it to real one (recommend) also change windows one to real one as well

or second way is to change his ubuntu mac to windows mac spoof (fake it) it as well

check your mac address of your ubuntu( linux distro)

ifconfig or iwconfig will give you details of your interfaces including mac address

check mac address set in your router login in your router

    https://192.168.1.1

    or http://192.168.1.1 or http://routerlogin......etc

(ie private address like for example 192.168.x.x 10.x.x.x or 172.16.0.0

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network

step 4 click on second tab (wireless security) now here set your security type if its wep wpa /wap2 etc along with password

check to show your password it will help you to avoid password error

step 5 click on 3rd tab(IPv4 settings) stay it default if you use dhcp (dhcp is enable in your router ....ie you get your ip automatic you dont manually set it.)

what is dhcp (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) in simple word it give you your ip address you dont need to manually assign it.

step 6 in same tab if you have manual ip (ie you set your ip address to connect to your router) then set method to manual click on add button

ip address of your computer netmask gateway

192.168.1.2(ipaddress of ubuntu computer) 255.255.255.0 (or if you have different subnet mask) 192.168.1.1(gateway)

also write your dns address as well

202.56.x.6 for example then click apply ok

and if you done all correctly to get your network connected :D

i put all screen shots later please wait
