I have an NDAS network drive and use Thunderbird.

I want to be able to email the kids to tell them to install a file from the network drive through using a link.

Unfortunately, when I use insert link within TB and click send, it attaches the file as opposed to just sending the link.

Is there a way to just send a link so that they double-click to download the file from the network drive?

    Thanks
    Ian

In the compose message window, click Insert > Link > Choose File

When I do that TB attaches the files and sends it, although it isn't delivered as I get an 'illegal file' from the gmail server.

Oh, well, I'll just have to keep shouting at them!

    Thanks

    thats a problem with gmail.
gmail wont accept any .exe files.
    rename the files.
    e.g. .exe.(delete this bit)
and then at the other end remove the text in brakets
    or use another email provider.

    The way to go is:

create a shortcut on the network drive,

attach the shortcut to the email,

tell the kids to save the shortcut to the desktop and double-click.
