How To Disable IPv6 In Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

    When no ipv6 routers are present, its automatically disabled and therefore this is not necessary anymore, also you can block ipv6 via firewall.

    And, you can block it in Firefox!

    Thats right, if one opens up network tools in Ubuntu, they will find ipv6 with an ignore tab.

    In Fedora 13 I edited the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file and added the following entries:
    #blacklist ipv6
    blacklist ipv6

    Reboot and then check with:
    ip a | grep inet6

    no output means ipv6 is successfully blocked

    In Ubuntu 10.04 LTS ...

    select System / Preferences / Network Connections
    select Wired tab
    select Auto Ethernet
    click Edit
    select IPv6 Settings tab
    set Method to Ignore
