How safe is it to use google & hotmails in built web app services?

    Hello everyone,

    How safe is it (from privacy and security point of view) to view
    images, pdf, word, excel documents from google and hotmails
    in built web application services??

    Is it safer to first download the attachment and run it sandboxed
    in its installed application or let the pdf/image open in the
    sandboxed browser itself?
